1960s console stereo - pull the tubes?
« on: September 29, 2008, 10:27:06 am »

I have an old console stereo in my basement that has been hanging out for way too long.  I was going to fix it but I'll likely never get to it.  Tried to Freecycle it, no one interested.  Going to have to trash it.  Question:

...is it worth going to the effort of pulling the vacuum tubes out before I put it to the curb?  Anything else that may be worth pulling?

I would pull the tubes, but that's me.  I like collecting old electronics like that.

*Geek moment*
Electronics using vacuum tubes are much more resistant to EM pulses than modern electronics...

Are they still NLA like I seem to remember?

I'm also sorta tempted to pull the 8 track recorder.  :)

I made a ton of money selling tubes on eBay a few years back. I found literally thousands of tubes in boxes at an auction and sold them as "untested" and some of them went for stupid money. It may be worth it to research what tubes you have.
