I have a control panel metal, removed the old artwork and i basically used my drill with a wire brush attachment to get the panel down to the shinny metal. Is it ok to apply my artwork directly to the metal, or should i prime and paint it ?

No need to prime.

  • Is it hot in here?
Yeah, I also think it would be best to apply it to the clean, bare metal.

    • My Arcade (updated 1/30/13)
Scott from MameMarquees said otherwise to me. He said it's best to prime at the very least.

I don't mind in investing in a cheap can of primer, but I seem to have mixed feedback

I would definitely prime wood but not metal. As long as you get the CP nice and smooth I think you will get a much stronger bond CPO>CP than CPO>primer>CP. I imagine Scott knows what he is talking about but I wouldn't use primer personally.

Its best to at least prime it, because the metal is a little bit More porous and it doesn't give the sticker a good flat surface to adhere to. So I would prime then fine sand and clean then apply.
