So, who's getting Samba de Amigo for the Wii ?

Will be released in a couple of days. Got it on the dreamcast, but the maracas are unreliable. Even without them, I hope it will be a lot of fun on the Wii.

I wanted to get that for DC, but I could never get a good deal on the maracas.  It looks like fun.  Wonder how much the maracas will be?

I think probably never.  I mean, we already have some real games, and will continue to get them, but probably never in much higher numbers than we get now.  The gimmick games are where the money is to be made on Wii apparently.

Couldn't understand the point of a rhythm game?

As for am I getting it...

I no longer have a Wii, but I am curious as to how the controls compare to the DC ones. Being cordless is probably a HUGE advantage, but how well will up/down positioning be recognized?

I still have it for the DC and my kids have been asking about it. (They saw the maracas box in storage.)

I guess I should say I just couldn't get into the game really. It just felt.... awkward. All I can say is, I hope the Wii's Samba de Amigo interface is better than this utter crap.

Rhythm games aren't for everybody I guess.

It has to be better than Wii music. That one is shockingly wtf bad looking.

Uhm, have fun ?

I've got it on DC but the maraca sets (got both "fake" versions) are not 100% reliable. Also the're a bit clumsy to set-up in the living room. I thought it would be released without maracas, is that picture of a third party set ?

I always play the Dreamcast version with the standard DC controller. I love Samba, but I would feel stupid playing it with the maracas. (No reason to point out the fact that I love Guitar Hero. It's not the same.) ;D

No, it just doesn't feel the same.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band make you feel sooooooooo much cooler than you really look.

To onlookers, you look just as ridiculous either way. :P

Anyone who feels cool playing Guitar Hero is an idiot. I'm not one to play in public. I actually play guitar, so I don't feel as stupid playing Guitar Hero (at home, with the blinds closed), but the maracas are a tad silly.

So is the little toy guitar. That's all I'm saying.

I actually play guitar as well. I would think as a guitar player you would find playing the toy with five frets and a single "string" (strum bar) more silly.

My take on these games, is their whole point is to have a silly good time, and I have no shame looking the fool with any of them (DDR included, and trust me... I look the silliest of all playing that one).

I never wanted to like it. When Guitar Hero ][ came out, my friend's kid got one that Christmas and I was like, "Let me see that stupid thing." Tried it, felt stupid, then started to like it. Next thing I know, not a week goes by and I've bought one of my own.

I play when we have company, but I don't think I look as stupid as with the maracas. Here's my GH controller, btw. I've modified it with a 1/4" jack that runs to my Star Power pedal I made:

Don't you think it's a little unhealthy to worry so much about looking silly to other people?  Don't you think you might be exaggerating in your head how much other people give a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- about how you look?

I tend to look stupid enough in most situations. I just don't need the accessories.

I paid the 200 beans for the original Dreamcast game and it was fun.   I may have to check it out.  Not in a rush to go out and get it though.

Bought the Wii version the other day. First impressions: The total look and sound of the original is captured completely. They've done a very very good job on that, not changing everything because they know better, instead they sticked to the excellent original.

It's great to have so many new songs and also to find the originals there. The songs all sound great.

I only own one controller and the nunchuck and I have to say that this just doesn't work for this game. The nunchuck often doesn't register the shake. The cord between the two controllers also ruins the maracas feeling. Also, the Nunchuck lost connection to the controller every now and then, and this interrupts the game. Luckely, you can continue.

Started on the easy level and to my surprise the lower (green) circles were not used at all at this level. The game is very easy at this level, TOO easy for anyone who knows his way in the original version. I passed all the songs in easy with an A grade at first try.

The normal level is better already. I like the added dancing moves but some songs have too many of them.

The main thing is that the feeling of the Wii controllers is a lot different from the real maracas used on the DC version. Although these don't work perfect either (I don't own the original Sega's but I do have two sets one from each "compatible" manufacturer.) the feeling is a lot different.

Sometimes "shakes" seem to lag and then "get up" in pace and the game registers them as Good, but they feel out of beat. Can't really explain it.

I can't give it a final verdict before trying it with two controllers.

Also, to have two (or more) player fun, you'll need at least 3 extra controllers which nicely adds up to the cost of the game, but the same thing was true for the original.
