MAME SF3 cd loading
« on: September 18, 2008, 05:39:02 pm »
This never seems to work for me. The loading screen comes up and it just sits there doing nothing. Does this happen to anyone else? Thanks.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Do you have the CHD file? Not going to work without it.

I have my CHD files in their directories under my rom directory. Do I need to specify a CHD directory in my mame.ini so it knows where to look? Thanks!

These titles originally had to load from CD and it took like 20 minutes.  Some of the ROMS do the same,  but show you a loading screen of sorts... I can't remember if it counts down but I seem to remember it does.  It only happens once then it's saved in NVRAM or something.   There are also ROM's that have a NOCD tag to them that doesn't do this.  Personally,  I let each load just to get it over with.

I guess my confusion is whether or not it shows progress or just sits there, looking like it's frozen while it loads. I've been using the NOCD version for a while with great success, so I guess this is just curiosity more than anything. Is there a difference between the regular and NOCD version?

my suggestion is leave it on over night.... you will find out in the morning if it froze or not.

That's a bit extreme. Mine never freeze. If his are freezing up, he has an issue right there. It takes about 15-20 minutes, but the counter is supposed to always be running.

What does your directory structure look like? It seems like it's not finding the CHD file...

A word of warning: make sure that logging in MAME is turned off before you load a cd for a CPS3 game :) It's working now. Thanks for all the help!
