Mamewah setup
« on: September 18, 2008, 10:41:21 am »
As probably guessed I'm new to the world of MAME. As such I'm having trouble getting MAMEWah to work properly. I am using MAME 0127b with no updates, MAMEWah 163, ZSNES 1.36, and RockNesx 2.0.  My system is a homebuilt XP with SP2.

I'm having several problems which all seem to end the same way.

First I cannot get it to list any of the mame roms. The path to the roms is correct. When I try to generate the list Mamewah fails/closes and drops me back to my desktop. Here is the log

9/17/2008 2:39:28 PM MAMEWAH v1.63 launched

Strangely I can get my SNES roms to list but when I try to play any of them it does the same thing and drops me back to desktop.

Lastly I added in RockNes which I can also get to show a list for but when I try to play one of them it fries my desktop.  Wallpaper is removed settings are changed to 640x480 and the mouse becomes invisible.  Since I had to create this one on my own I probably did something wrong to cause these problems.

Any help would be awesome. The roms all work as I've run them through other programs MAME32 for the arcade and just accessing ZSNES and RockNes manually.

Have you set the rom directories for those emulators in the individual programs' INIs?

Go to mame and check your mame.ini and see if the directory points to your roms.
Do the same for the other emus (zsnes has a .cfg file, I believe)
Also, make sure zsnes has gui set to off.

I went back and downloaded all of the files from CPViewer.  The ini for Zsnes worked great and I've had no trouble with it since.  I am now using fceultra as my nintendo emulator but it is still giving me the same problem.  It will give me a game list but when I try to run one it changes the screen to 640x480 and then causes Mamewah to crash.  Which then causes me to lose my desktop wallpaper and have to reboot.  I've also added fusion which is working fine and Project 64 which gives me a list but I'm not sure how well it runs since I may have caused it to crash.

The big thing is mame which is still refusing to give me a game list.  I am using the ini from CPViewer but there is no .dat file in the folder which is what it wants at the moment.

9/18/2008 4:19:26 PM List generation started...
9/18/2008 4:19:26 PM dat_file:  does not exist!
9/18/2008 4:19:26 PM List generation aborted
9/18/2008 4:19:26 PM Games list read: mame-0.lst
9/18/2008 4:19:45 PM Mode 1280 x 1024 @ 60Hz, 32bit colour selected after 1 attempt(s) at 1/2 second intervals.
9/18/2008 4:19:46 PM MAMEWAH quit

Here is the ini file in mamewah

### List Generation Settings ###
rom_path                                  C:\Games\Emulators\Roms\Mame
rom_extension                             zip
dat_file                                  C:\Games\Emulators\Mame\mame.dat
nms_file
catver_ini_file                           c:\Games\Emulators\MAME\catver.ini
list_generation_method                    rom_folder_vs_dat_file

### Execution Settings ###
pre_emulator_app_commandlines             c:\winipac\winipac.exe "c:\winipac\profiles\[emuname].ipc"
emulator_commandline                      c:\Games\Emulators\MAME\mame.exe "[rompath]\[name].[romext]"{nodosbox}{nosafelaunch}
post_emulator_app_commandlines            c:\winipac\winipac.exe "c:\winipac\profiles\mamewah.ipc"
general_app_commandlines                  c:\cpv2\cpv2.exe -r=[name] -c=[cloneof];c:\cpv2\cpv2.exe -b="c:\cpv2\images\mamewah.jpg";c:\histview\histview.exe -r=[name]

And I've changed the rom path in the mame.ini in the main mame folder.  So still relatively out of my element at the moment but seeming to get closer.  Thanks for the heads up on the rom path in mame itself.

Can someone please tell me where in the hell the damn mame.dat file is at because I can't find it anywhere and it seems to be the current stumbling block for generating the game list.
