PacMan reset problems

I have a PacMan board that will reset or the screen will go to garbage if you bump the machine. Very embarrassing when company is over playing.

I have tracked it down to the daughter board (284 board, smaller one.)

Anytime you just barely touch it it will screw up.

It looks like the black connector that is on the main board isn't attached on one side. That may be letting it lose connection. It did have the zip tie on it before and it still had the same behavior.

What can I do?

Isn't attached?  To the main board?  You can either try and resolder the socket, or replace it.

It looks like the black plastic piece snaps over the connections that are soldered to the PCB.

Am I right?

Resolder all those connections on the daughterboard and mainboard.

The daughterboard should have an orange socket under it that in turn plugs into a socket on the main board.

Replace the socket on the main board. It's a common problem.

No.

You only need that if you plugged the board in backwards. If you do that, it'll fry each of those little 74xx series chips on it.

You simply need a 28 pin socket to replace the bad one on the Pac Man board. Common problem.
