Anyone know how to make this effect?
« on: September 18, 2008, 10:01:30 am »
I'm Looking to reproduce the white "starburst effect" behind the lettering.  I'm not sure how to do this in photoshop so the little squares fade out as the starburst arms go out.  Any photoshop experts lend me a hand??

its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

I just experimented with it and found that you can use the halftone and photocopy filters mixed together to get the effect. Just be sure you use photocopy after halftone in the filters and that your chosen colors are white (foreground) and black (background).  You will have to play with the levels a little to get it close to what you're looking for.

If you happen to have the Alien Skin plug in Snap Art it too has a halftone filter.

There are quite a few tutorials online about half-toning which, I think, would give you the desired result. Here's one at PSLab; if I remember correctly, there are a few video tutorials on YouTube...

Just make the image in greyscale as if you would see it through your eyelids (blurry).
Then use convert grayscale->bitmap with halftoning on to convert it to a black and white bitmap.
With this function:
-The dots are very realistic to real halftones, instead of the halftone function which always produces circles (and halftones are square at de 50% grey point)
-The black and white image can be imported in your vector image program, and can be given any PS front and back colour. Much easier way to incorporate it into your total artwork.
