Arcadevga or normal ATI 9800pro
« on: September 17, 2008, 12:43:18 pm »
Ok so been playing around with a P4 board that has onboard video and been using a program like soft 15khz but goingto make the switch to soft15khz.

Now I noticed I had an ATI 9800pro video card kicking around and wish to use that in my setup, since on board sucks as we all know.

My question is what would be the difference between using the 9800pro with the soft 15khz or an arcadevga board with the 15khz locked on the board ?

Specs wise (OE) the 9800 spanks the 9200 based cards they sell and I understand that the 15khz wont kick in till windows boots up. I understand it takes "work" to tweak a normal vga to work correctly. Just want to know if I am loosing out on an ArcadeVGA?

I have a Sega New Astro City candy cab with a medium rez montior in it, but plan just using it at 15khz (unless this is not the correct way).

currently I get split post screens and split windows xp boot screen... I understand that this MAY cause damage ?? I've heard their is wayto fix this ?

Thankz !

leave the onboard enabled in the bios and make it the primary card. Then in windows disable it. When the computer starts up it'll push the BIOS screens to the onboard but when windows starts it'll push soft 15 to the ATI card.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

ah ok.. so in other words the boardwill start and not display a picture since the on board is not technically hooked up to the monitor, but the 9800 will once windows boots ?

Yes. NOW, read the stuff hyperlinked in my sig. Pay particular attention to monitor standards. Do this before you start your system up again.

Thankz for the heads up !

It would seem the board I have disables the onboard video the min a put an AGP card in. Does not seem to be an option in the bios to change this....

If it's there, it'll be in 'Advanced', 'Video Configuration' or something like that.
