Taito legends 1 and 2 under virtualisation
« on: September 16, 2008, 10:00:04 am »
I just bought Taito Legends 1 and 2, but as I am an OSX man, I want to run them in a virtualised XP. Problem is that the CD-ROM works and installs, but is not recognised when you double click your shortcuts. Seems the virtualisation does some drive-mapping for CD's, instead of recreating the official low-level access possible on real hardware.
Does anyone now how to get this working without a real CD-ROM drive? It is also nice to know an alternative as you cannot swap discs all the time in a cab.

Those games use "Starforce" copy protection so , you may not be able to run those game under virtualisation.
If I remember right Starforce installs a low level driver in windows that checks the CD everytime you launch the game .
I never used OSX running Windows XP  but, I am pretty sure its the Starforce copy protection keeping the games from running.

Most versions of VMWare allow you to use an ISO image as a virtual drive (like daemon tools for PC). Typically this is done by bringing up the settings for the virtual hardware and clicking the CD/DVDROM and clicking a radio button and browsing to the ISO
