Dolph Lundgren:

"He received a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1982, and the next year was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to MIT."

By the way, he's Swedish.

Isn't it illegal now to give out awards based on actual merit?

WAS a porn star.  Not anymore.

Really sad story, actually.  She quit porn, got married, had kids, and moved to Utah.  Then her husband died.

Quote from Asia: "I deliberately moved to St. George with my husband so we could raise our kids in a conservative atmosphere, in a low-crime, family friendly state."

Sharon Stone has kind of a similar story.  She's hugely intelligent, went to college at 14, then went to New York to be a model.

She did finally admit that she never was a MENSA member. :dunno

Not everyone is interested in joining puzzle clubs or sitting around smoking dope, which seems to be the two things MENSA members do.

I never got that latter part from from what I've heard. I had a girlfriend who was in MENSA in the early 80s and she NEVER smoked dope, nor indicated anyone in her experience of that group did.

More, somewhat indirectly on Dolph Lundgren. (I've been going through the Rocky series and I just watched IV. Seriously, I think it's a good flick in the set and definitely the peak. I mean, what else can you do?)

Sylvester Stallone has stated that the punching between him and Dolph Lundgren in the first portion of the fight is completely authentic. One particularly forceful punch to Stallone's chest slammed his heart against his breastbone, causing the heart to swell and his breathing to become labored. Stallone, suffering from labored breathing and a blood pressure over 200, was flown from the set in Canada to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica and was kept in intensive care for eight days.

Additionally, Stallone claims that Lundgren nearly forced Carl Weathers to quit in the middle of filming the Apollo versus Drago exhibition fight. Lundgren tossed Weathers into the corner of the boxing ring, prompting Weathers to leave the ring and announce that he was quitting and calling his agent.

Maybe a case of the sleeping beast in Lundgren?

It is just as likely a case of movie hype as it is actually true.  If you take a 6-5 guy with that build and tell people half his size to take undefended full force shots to the head from him... eventually someone is going to get injured, yes?

Well, as a kid, I don't recall what I thought of the technicality of these kinds of situations, and as I've gotten older I did figure there was some intensity involved, but not to that degree. Make it look real, but it's not real, you know? Maybe Lundgren just got to caught up in the part.

Stallone was the writer and director... if he said "go real" Lundgren was obliged to go real.

Yeah, I spose. Certainly whether Stallone was directing or no, he obviously went along with it for a spell.
