Still have shadows on monitor
« on: September 11, 2008, 10:46:50 pm »
hey, i was told in my older post that my contrast was to high and was produceing red shadows. Well finally got my video amplifier in and hooked it up. Tweaked the brightness and contrast focus and most other adjustments and cannot rid the shadows. What else would be causeing this? just had the monitor tuned ant a shop and it looked beautiful, but that was another machine so i understand some smaller differances but shadows?

sry, can't be specific. the rings will be on the crt neck . between the pcb and the yoke .

on most crt tv's , there will be a ref line on the rings . it helps secure them , and provides a visual indication
if disturbed.
lastly,  a ref to realign to factory position

guess my pic didnt know the first time. Hope it helps. Rings look pretty good. Ref line is kinda work off and the paint is chipping so its hard to tell. I fiddled with them and it just kinda moved the shadow around didnt remove.

Turn down the contrast control until you barely have a visible image.  Do you still have this "shadow" at that point?

if it worked fine for the tech guy and not your setup then I would think it would be your setup and not the monitor.

otherwise the tech would have found something if he knows what he is doing and told/charged you if there was a problem.

how is it hooked to the pc to begin with?

what type card are you using?

what type cable?

what type monitor?

what res monitor?

Its hooked up to a ulitmarc video amp, then to my arcadeVGA, and to my system. The system is a pentium with 2ghz processor, 448 megs ram, 180 gig HD. Monitor is a 27" Wells. Not sure of res on monitor. I think it has to do a lot with the convergence rings, more so then how i have it hooked up. I fiddled with them and it did improve a little but rotated the shadow up instead of sideways. The tech told me before i left it would need some minor adjusting since i was running on a computer and settings can vary from system to system. Didnt figure this much... And his mobile service is way out of my price range. I could have bought a new monitor if i have him come back out.   Can a regular TV repair shop re-align the convergence rings?

it is the red convergence, look carefully its not a shadow-its the entire red over a few millemeters
the yoke rings should all line up to a paint mark, bet one of those is out

you can read up on how to do this, important to note that there is a locking ring at the back that must be turned anti clockwise before you try to move any of the rings

canīt see how this would not be spotted at the shop where it was tested though

I have messed with the convergence rings useing the nokia test screen and i just cant get them lined up. I think i made it worse lol. Would this be something a regular TV shop be able to tune for me? Do they have the ability to run 15khz monitors?
??
