Help! Fix chipped monitor/TV Glass??!

OK.  I suck.

I was installing my speakers into the cabinet yesterday and I dropped one.  The metal bracket on the speaker came crashing down onto the TV and took a decent chip out of the TV glass.  No cracking, but a decent chip, and right in my field of vision so It's insanely annoying.   

Does anyone know of a DIY  solution for fixing glass chips?  Would a windshield repair kit from an auto parts store help?

buffing compound and LOTS of elbow grease can reduce small imperfections .

if its a deep gouge , the options are  :

1 ,  live with it
2,   replace the crt

Be careful about applying buffing/rubbing compounds or even just buffing up the surface of a TV.  Unlike most arcade monitors, most CRT televisions and computer monitors have an anti-glare coating on the surface.  Buffing up the surface will disturb or remove this coating in the area you mess with, possibly making things appear even worse than the chip in the glass started out.

I've tried a few on actual windshields with varying results.
Worth a shot on the tube, obviously can't do any harm since it's already chipped.
(unless it has the anti-glare as mentioned)

comp monitors yes.   but,  never noticed it on a typical tv. ( which, use the same crts as game monitors    )

around 10yrs ago , i had a cust bring in a 32" quasar console for repair.
 unfortunately, they had transported it face down in a truck.   
left a gouge dead center of screen.  as a favor, did the buff bit w/the dremel.
managed to smooth the edges enough to please them .....
