Pretty much finished
« on: June 11, 2003, 08:38:50 pm »
Well, I finally got the stupid monitor bezel in the mail so I can take some 'finished' pics.  Things left to do include adding tinted monitor glass, bezel graphics, and sideart.  Also some minor cosmetic touch-up. The rotating action is really smooth, and there's enough friction to keep it from moving backwards.  The coin door keeps it from rotating forwards.

Check out my new Flash-y website for lots and lots of pics.  Thanks again to the mods and the ol' regulars, you guys really helped a lot :)

HOOOOO YEAHHH ! ! ! ! ! :o
I love it..VERY professional indeed and I like the cabinet design :).
all shiny :o ;D :o.

Out of curiousity, how long it took to finish up the cabinet?
Just wondering...looks like its a LOT of work...not some simple cabinet I would say.

One of the best cabs I have seen!  Great web site too.  I need to print out one of those cards to explain my project.  I was just getting ready post my finished pic, but I think I'll wait a bit...lol.  Again, great work.

I bow to your greatness! ;D

I should get those modified dimensions from you for your control panel. No sense in me figuring out what you've already done. I SO want my orginal Tron stick in there. Yours looks incredible! Great job.
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

Incredible cabinet and website, Frosty.  As you know I am about to embark on a similar project and hope mine will look half as good as yours.

Oh yeah, and your artwork is fantastic!

Congratulations!

Wow. :o

(sips on Guiness.)

Fantastic job with the rotating panel!

I always liked the idea that 1Up had, but I always thought his execution was a bit too messy.

Each panel's graphics look mint!

Now back to my Guiness... ;D

Heh, I'm right there with ya, Smack...  Let me sit down my beverage of choice to applaud Frosty's cab, as well...

Fantastic work, Frosty, a true inspiration!  Long gone are the days of black marble contact paper.  The bar has been raised yet again...

Hehe, we all have that cup holder.  You know how many emails I get from people asking me where I got mine.

I don't have a pic with my favorite beverage unfortunately, Jack & Coke.

Extraordinary results/finish, Frosty... Good job! I'm very jealous.  I'd love to have my own copy -> although I'm not sure how my wife would feel about vampire chick boobies on the side art (in our living room).

Dumb functionality question: on the "assault" themed panel...  when you play robotron or battlezone (for example) do you use the two middle sticks together... Or do you stand at station 1 and use one rotary and one top fire stick?

Looks really sweet oh Frosti one!

?:  The friction you refer to that stops the panel from rotating back - is that just from the PVC axle?  I had to put the steel plate on the front of mine to stop others from pushing it back when they get too excited during play.

Rampy:  yeah for single player dual joystick games like Bzone and assault I use the inside 2 top-fire joysticks.  They are technically joystick 3 and 4 (on my ipac4 wiring).  I will probably replace the tops oft those with those popular trigger grips (the kind happs/bobroberts sell) in the future to feel more authetic assault action.  Hot Assault Action!!  sounds dirty....  :)

TazMan: The friction comes from the sides of the rotating panels themselves, and partly from the tight holes for the PVC axle.  I built it so it just fits within the width of the bottom half of the cab.  It smoothly rotates both ways, but it doesn't free spin.

In the future, I will add a lock to the front door, and a long 'L' brace-type piece of metal to the very top 3/4" part of the door, so when it is closed a small bit of brace extends to the front of the rotating panels to prevent it from rotating backwards.  Similar to 1UP's idea.  The only downside to the cab is the prospect of somebody else trying to rotate it - it can go about 2 turns either way without getting tangled inside, but after that I am picturing wires snapping off stuff!  :(

My thoughts exactly!  There are some VERY cool cabs out there, great job Frost :o.  How does it feel to be up at the top of this group?  Thanks for the great pictures and of course the tutorial.
