Seeking Custom DK CPO...
« on: September 08, 2008, 02:01:53 pm »
I'm looking for somebody to take the original DK cpo... Add a 2 1/4" trackball and 2 more buttons... keep the motive the same and preserve as much original character art... (understanding that there has to be some compromise here)

PM me if interested in doing this... or perhaps its already been done?

Thanks
Happy Gaming!

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

CP size?

I don't know the dimensions of the original DK overlay off the top of my head... but it would have to be within that scope.

It just helps to know the dimensions of your CP to know how to modify and layout the control setup.

So, no changes to the size, then?

Yup... no changes to the size... the only thing I suppose could be done is due the fact that the original CPO is silk screened translucent which is slightly smaller than the wood panel itself...  the redesign could be add a black border around the artwork that would extend to the edges of the wood panel.  This may give a bit more flexibility when moving things around... but ultimately you are bounded by the space underneath the panel where the controls sit in the cab.

I have an original panel and original overlay... I will get exact numbers.

Thanks

Hey Ginsu, you have DK CPO artwork you could loan me?  Local arcade is down.

Thanks...

Here is a quick 5 minute modification. I would be happy to tweak it for you, as well as fill in the missing text. Some questions on this (if you want to continue):
What do you want it to say under the TB?
What do you want to other button labels to be?

Also, I will need to verify what the actual dimensions of the 2 1/4" TB should be - as drawn the center black circle is exactly 2 1/4".

No problem if you want to go another direction. Just throwing this out there.

That's Awesome!

I was thinking JUMP(B1), ACTION(B2), ACTION(B3)
Trackball could be labeled ROLLER

Sound good?

Thanks!

Sure, I'll fix it up tomorrow, since I left the file at work.  ;)

The ACTION(B1) might be a little long to fit, but I will take a look. Also, I was thinking you might want to swap the Donkey Kong logo and the P1 P2 buttons so they are not directly above the joystick. What do you think?

Yup... I figured the ACTION text would be an issue but if it turns out to be ugly.. just drop the ACTION and use B2 and B3...

As far as moving the DK logo that makes sense too...

Also realized... maybe the jump button and joystick is too close to the trackball... the body will interfere below.  So slide the 3 buttons way to the right, move the joystick to the left (slightly)  and the Donkey Kong logo above the trackball... maybe find another place for the Nintendo logo or scrap it... either way looking good!

Thanks again!

OK, moved stuff around. Do us a favor and print out a paper copy to test out button locations, distance from joystick, etc. I didn't design any ergonomics in this, and we should make sure it is usable as a control panel!

Also we may need to make the ring around the trackball larger if we want to see white around the TB bezel. Or it may not matter that much.

Also also, I made the button text smaller, but if you prefer original size we can just keep B1, B2 and B3.

The .jpg is so you can see it here in the forums. The .pdf is for easy printing. The .zip is the zipped version of the vector file. Most likely either the PDF or SVG file will work for final output.

Let me know if you need more changes!

Got it... I'm waiting for my trackball so I will build the panel shortly...I'll post pics when I get it done...

Thank you so much this is a really big help!

Retro,

Here is another thread of someone doing a DK. Their cp is almost the same as yours but the tb is in a different location.

Thanks for the tip... I like the trackball in the middle a bit better.  We will have to see how it feels though. ;)
