Kingsport Auction visit
« on: September 06, 2008, 08:09:23 pm »
The circus arrived in town again..

Well, maybe I'm not in control. Went in, got my bidding number, and bought something within 5 minutes.
2 each of a 13,19, and 27" monitors for $5. (not each, okay, with fees it was $3.82 each)..
I think they mostly need cap kits. Ops are getting lazy these days.. just buy another monitor, apparently.
Wells-Garners mostly, from the unreliable era.. Just be more careful fixing them I guess.

Every other dang game there was a Multi-cade and went for $500-$1300. Ridiculous.
Especially when some of them didn't even have enough buttons for the games they had on them..

Here's stuff I found interesting but  didn't buy: sorry for the blurry pix.

Anniversary edition. $1325.

Fake Pac cabinet. Note the dollar changer instead of a quarter slot. Greedy so-and-sos..

::Drool:: sticky trackball, but working. $225.

Bad Ram error. $150. Yes that's a multi-williams next to it. Forgot to note it's price..

A DK Multi with a monster monitor in it. At an angle, complete with speaker interference.

And it can't be complete without a hellcade:

If you order a pizza, put 1 quarter in their Galaga and the pizza's done before you are, you might be a video game junkie.. if you offer to tweak the crt , definitely.

Arkanoid in a Pac cabinet with Jr Pac side art... at least that gives a nice comprehensive history of the cab

I'm glad the Bubbles went for a decent price. looks like an easy fix.. a fully working one would have gotten a bit more.. I liked that game, may have to get one of those new retro boards since I have the controller.

Now, what to do with all these monitors once I fix them.. looks like one of the 27s just has a blown resistor, that, and whatever caused the resistor to go.. powers up, no vertical, just a line... It came in the box probably from the replacement.. what a expensive 'repair' that was. ::)

I'd hate to see the face of the person who brought all that to the auction.. "5 bucks? and you charged me $10 to sell them?" but I guess they've made their money elsewhere, I'm glad they did that rather than put them in the trash..

Oh YOU bought the monitors? I missed that some how. Good find! Even if you can't get them running, it was worth the $3.82 a piece.

Btw, your sig about "offering to tweak the CRT", I did that in a little restaurant in Kentucky that had a Ms Pac WAY out of focus. They gave me a free sandwich!

Heh, yeah.. I knew going to the auction it would take a real special game to provoke me to move one of the other 5 around.. parts quest only.

This particular auction was  a bit less populated than the prior 2, seasonal, or a indication of the economy..
Some folks I know that run a pizza place, I offered to fix their games, even find them one to own instead of sharing revenue. When it got to that offer, the owner
said 'well, they're an old friend..' hmph, a friend wouldn't dump such crappy route games on them like that (driving game with a bad monitor, a pinball with most of the playfield lights out..)  I wouldn't even ask for a free pizza to fix that pinball lighting situation, (I likes the pinballs, trying to get my games all nice and working for an eventual trade to save money) but hell to pay if I screwed something up in there changing the bulbs..

Thats true. The Pac I worked on was left in the restaurant when the previous owner left, so the new people just put in a bunch of quarters every morning for the kids to play for free. They prolly couldn't afford the tax stamp for it.  I adjusted the monitor and set it to free play.
