video weirdness
« on: September 06, 2008, 01:35:46 pm »
Hello,

Had some time again to do some tests on my cab.

My environment is set to 640x240 (240 as suggested by Sailor)

but for some reason when I play Terra Cresta that is using a height of 224 pixels I get

1. (Terra2.gif) an odd scrolling effect appearing every 20 lines or so
too bad it's not really visible on the attachment, it's like having 20 blocks/strips of 22 pixels high on the screen
when the line scrolls out of that box the next lines seems to show line x-2 instead of line x

2. (Terra.gif) vanishing lines (look at the S & E of CREDITS), while one would expect to see line doubling

I'm using that MAME32 thing just to have a menu with my files
I'm using a 28" CRT POLO monitor from Hantarex
Feeded through a JammASD and a Xentor Maxi Gamer card

It also happens in 640x288

anyone having a clue what might cause this?

ok, I was still using a MAME32 from 2002.

Just installed the latest and the bugs seem to have gone when using 640x288 or something.

Odd thing is that a lot of games like Xevious only use 1/3 of the width my screen,
even stranger Street Fighter II which was the original PCB in this box also has 2 black side borders
not a big as in Xevious but it's not really full screen like the original was on this cab.

Is MAME switching gfx modes in the background or does it keep the one I was using in Windows (which was full screen) ?

EDIT: alright... it seems that setting my resolution to 384x288 solves a lot of problems on horizontal screen based games, the vertical ones still have the gaps (as supposed to be unless I flip that heavy monitor)

Read the monitor/video wiki.
