What resolution for Marquee
« on: September 03, 2008, 11:57:59 pm »
Does anyone know what resolution to use for a standard 24" x 8" marquee?

I am going to be making one and need to know the best resolution as it will be bit mapped and not vector graphics so it will not resize well.

Thanks

It depends on your own idea of what you think is good enough. Generally 300dpi is considered good, but I guess 150dpi could be adequate if you don't get close enough.

Just pick the quality level you want and do the math.

For my two console sticks I recently did, ones art was at 200dpi and printed on a $300 color printer at work, the other was at 300dpi printed at Kinkos.

I couldnt tell much of a difference up close and personal (of course, it wasnt the same graphic either).

So in my opinion, theres no reason to go above 300dpi, and if you arent going to be inches away from it, theres little reason to go above 200dpi, unless theres equal difficulty in scaling your image to 200 or 300.

I may have asked this wrong.  My plan is to print out at 300dpi.  My questions is what resolution would that be physically?

Is it just math, 24" x 300dpi and 8" x 300dpi, so that would be - 7200 x 2400?  So when designing the marquee do I start with a 7200 x 2400 image?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Your math is correct, so that should do it.
