moon patrol problems
« on: September 03, 2008, 09:49:25 pm »
So i got a moon patrol off the curb around the corner and well it doesn't seem to work. I have found the schematics and installation manual and printed them out but they don't seem to help me much.

So far i have fixed what i think were some problems with how it was wired to the after market power supply(has a +5v reads around 4.91v, ground, -5v, +12v reads about 11.49v)  as it seemed that the +12v that should have gone to the PCB was a +5v. Someone also added in a coin counter that seemed to make the coin door switches +12v and that just didn't seem right. Also the new power box was spliced in before the power switch and I don't know if that is right (all the switch does it turn on and off the monitor is that all it should do?).

All i can really get it to do is go into the test mode or almost in to it. It seems to be telling me I have a lot of ram errors and i have no idea what chip or chips i would need to look at  it goes from:

ram NG: E000: 01 08 all the way to ram ng:E7**: ** ** as it seem to go up one thing at a time that would seem to be some 800 errors and yet i don't know how to read the error code to find the chip or what is wrong with it.

Here is a video of me just scrolling the error codes by holding P1start and and when i hit p2start it flashes rom test ok

and this is the screen i got when i first got it

any help would be nice

Turning up your +5V to 5.1V is a start.

Replace the 2128 at 3B on the CPU board. It's the RAM at address E000-E7FF.

If that's not it and you need it repaired, send me an email as I can repair the MP boardset.

So how much do you think it would cost to get you to fix it? I have never been able to take anything off a board without burning the board or breaking something else

Probably somewhere in the 25 to 40 range... it just depends on how long it takes and how many other problems there might be. You never know until you dig into it.
