  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Problem since upgrading PC and MAME version
« on: August 29, 2008, 09:58:24 am »
I was recently given a free computer to upgrade my cabinet. I went from a 733 to a 2 ghz with a gig of ram. This allowed me to stop using mame .84 and start using .127 (with Mamewah as the frontend).

When I go to load some games (and it's not always the same game twice when this happens), I see the outline of a window shrinking down and the focus is lost. I just get a black screen, but can hear the sound of the game running. If I alt-tab, I can get to the game. If I crtl-alt-del, I can shut mame down and return to my frontend.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks.

I just fixed this same sort of thing on mine (had to reload my HDD and was having this problem since I did).

Here's a good thread with some things to try.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=42156.0

I did 2 things that seemed to fix it for me (not sure which did, or if both did)

1) used the {safelaunch} command in mame.ini in mamewah as per the above link
2) my monitor was set at 800x600x32 and I thought this might be causing an issue with mamewah which I think is set at 800x600x16 which then must change res when it launches mame.   Anyway, I set my monitor to 800x600x16.

One of the 2 seemed to work (knock on wood) as the past day I have not seem this focus problem.  If neither works for you, there are some other suggestions in the above thread that may help.

Thanks, I'll have a glance when I get home. I don't recall if I have {safelaunch} or {nosafelaunch} set. As for resolution, I have everything (desktop, mame, mamewah) at 640x480@60 32 bit.
