Knievel still kickin'...
« on: August 24, 2008, 10:53:38 am »

Been on a bit of a hiatus lately but wanted everyone to know I'm fine and will be lurking around again.
My lifelong battle with migraines escalated this year and I've been trying a number of things, including limiting my online time.
Currently I've got a preventative med that seems to be helping and Amerge to knock it down when I get one.

Anyway I will try and get to all the PM's I have here. Thanks to those who were concerned about me. :)

Used to get migraines as a kid... can totally sympathize, bro... keep at it and fight the good fight.  Migraines are hell.

My wife gets migraines sometimes. They suck. She takes Imitrex for them, seems to work okay.

Old, but not obsolete.

Thanks guys.

I will try the Pomegranate..can't hurt.

I have been through Imitrex. Works but it takes me out for a few hours with dizzyness/upset stomach.
If the same happens to her I would try Amerge, none of those side effects in my case.

If I could just take an Amerge every day I'd be a happy guy. If only it wasn't $50 a pill.

Hey man, good to see you around! I rarely post anymore, but I still check the site out a lot. I know what you mean about the migraines, I get them too. As a writer, nothing knocks me on my butt faster than an oncoming migraine. I actually lose vision completely in my right eye when they come on, and will lose partial vision in my left. I have to get home when I feel one coming, or else I won't be able to drive. Imitrex didn't do much for me, and I've tried a lot to help, but not much does the trick once they start in.

One thing that I've done that's GREATLY decreased the frequency of them for me is to get a non-reflective privacy shield for my computer screen. Yeah, they're meant for privacy, but they also remove every last ounce of reflection. That really helped me out for preventing the onset.

Anyway, it's good having you here...how about another project?

Every time I get migraines I hide in the closet.

Peace and quiet and black always cures it for me.

No stress no migraines.  ;D

There's been promising research and the anecdotal evidence is very compelling.  My dad went from being knocked down for 2-3 days by migraines periodically, taking tylenol-3, imitrex, the whole nine yards.  Now he feels one coming on and takes a couple tylenol and it's knocked out completely and he's been like that for almost 3 years.  A coworker's kid has had similar results.

Anyway, it's $7-8 for a bottle of concentrate, and it'll last you about a month.  He mixes his with water or iced tea.

Thanks for the info.

My boys are 2 and 6, there is never peace and quiet around here. :P

Hey Jeff. The privacy screen sound like a good idea. I have switched to an old laptop with a pretty dim screen and that seems to be helping.
Yea I am overdue for a project alright. Not sure how I'm going to top the Guitar Hero cabinet though. :)

My wife had migraine problems a few years ago.  She uses the generic Amerge, Axert when she gets a migraine.  It's about $5-6 per pill.  Don't know if you've looked into that.  One thing the doctor warned about Amerge/Axert is that it will not work as well the more you use it.  She ends up using it only when a whopper hits her.

She ended up controlling  her blood pressure to reduce her migraines.  Have you checked that out.  I don't know your medical history or want to pry but want to share what has helped her (and me as a sick effect  :) )

And if you are in an environment with fluorescent lights - turn them off and go with incandescent. There is a lot of compelling research indicating how harmful fluorescent lights are to the human nervous system. Plus, if you are using a CRT monitor - crank up the refresh rate. At least 72Hz, the higher the better. (LCD's don't work the same way, so the refresh has no effect)

Hope you feel better bro...
