Icon to represent MAME "Throttle" command (F10)
« on: August 12, 2008, 08:14:45 pm »
Howdy-

One of the admin-ish buttons that I have on my CP will be mapped to F10, for "throttle" in MAME, which will toggle between running the game at normal speed & running the game at the fastest speed that my computer can handle.

Why?  Speeds up loading of DECO games, & some others that have long boots.  I used to use the automatic save game states, but then I realized that I actually *want* to see the startup sequence when I boot games--I like it.  But, there are times when it's nice to bypass it (or run an old game super-fast just for the heck of it).

So, I tried to come up w/ a simple icon to put by this button to explain that it makes the game go fast/slow (without making a label that says "Fast / Slow".

So, I whipped up some sketches in Solidworks:

First, a bunny rabbit: bunny1.jpg.  Yes, it's sitting still & being cute vs. running...sedentary bunnies are easier to sketch than active ones...

Then, after my coworker was puzzled, I tried a bunny w/ a (slightly disfigured) turtle: bunny & turtle.jpg

My coworker got the point but preferred a running bunny.  Perhaps something along the lines of one of these shots: http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4DKUS_enUS264US264&q=rabbit+running

Comments?  I'd like an intuitive graphic to explain this button, rather than word(s).

Another thought that I had was a Shazam lightning bolt (lightning.jpg), but that could be confused with a power button or electricity or...?

Thanks,
-Jason

Why not use the double arrow "fastforward" symbol like VCR's have? Should be pretty obvious to most people...
