Games not loading

I'm in the early stages of setting up my machine.  I've loaded and setup the ROMS, MAME, and MALA.  MALA will come up, I see a list of my games, but when I try to select one of the games, nothing happens.  Anyone know what's going on?

Did you set MAME up to point at your rom dir?

I setup MALA to the ROM's path.  Is it also necessary to configure MAME to the ROM's path?

I don't know about MALA, but I know in Mamewah, it just goes blank for a sec, then back to the frontend.
