Lay arcade cabinet on its back for transport?

My cousin just scored a Centipede for $100.  He's trying to figure out exactly how to transport it with his Jeep + Trailer.  You can lay an arcade game on its back to transport it, correct?  (Obviously padding the back,sides, etc and strapping it down securely)

Yep.  I transported my Mortal Kombat about 230 miles this way.

That is the way the majority of people transport them. You just double check everything is bolted in place first. Just lay down some cardboard, and use a tie down or two. No need to do anything special.

Ive transported all of my games that way. Also learned that a cocktail cab fits the back of a Cherokee without putting down the seats...

Works fine. Just give it a once over to make sure nothing is loose before you lay it down, mainly the monitor. If the game has a monitor shelf, the monitor might not be secured.

Most of  the uprights I transported were actually on their side (on a blanket of course to protect it) because that's the only way to fit them in my car. Indeed do check if everything is tight inside before any transport.

I brought my DK home that way (although we only transported it about 30 miles).

Probably already over, but I'd suggest putting some padding underneath it. Doesn't matter if it's strapped down well - the vibration of metal, etc, against cab will be transmitted to the internals.

Honestly.... it doesn't matter how you transport an arcade machine, standing up, laying down, on it's back, on it's side, whatever and however you get it from point A to point B the same rules apply.

Check for loose parts and items before loading.
Pad to prevent dings , nicks and scratches.
Strap it down.
Check it all again when you set it up at it's destination before powering on.
