Nice Arcade in Utah (lots of classics and pins)...
« on: July 31, 2008, 02:16:42 pm »
Just thought I would post this here in case any other Utahns didn't already know this.  I stopped by the Nickelmania (http://nickelmaniagames.com/), and I was really impressed with there classic collection.  They had a working Tron, Tempest, Donkey Kong, Burger Time, Cetipede, Mario Brothers, etc... and they claim that they have Utahs largest pinball collection (they had a nice selection of new and old pins).  They also had the new arcades (ddr, racing, and the redemption stuff).

I have been to a few other nickel arcades (and normal arcades) here in Utah, and I have never seen one that had so many working classics (I think I maybe only saw one or two machines that were out of order, and they weren't ones I cared about anyways).  Seems like at minumum these places have a few rows of broken machines these days.

Since this is a Nickel Arcade (pay admission of a few bucks, and then all games cost a nickel), it was fairly cheap, but they are actually selling one of their pins (http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=3755749&cat=&lpid= - that is why we even stopped there to see if the pin was worth it), and in the ad they say if you mention the ad, admission is only 99 cents (when I told the girl behind the counter about that, she didn't really know what I was talking about, but after a few times trying to explain where I saw the ad etc... she finally just me, my wife, and my son in for 99 cents each).  It's pretty close to SLC (I think it's in Murray), so if you're in the area, I think it's worth it.

P.S.  I was down in that area for that GEEX electronic expo they had going on at the salt palace, and boy was that a let down.  I didn't expect it to be great, but I did hope it would have been better.  The arcade was really the highlight of that trip for me :)  My wife has a few pictures of the arcade on her blog post about that day trip we took (http://melarky.com/?p=745), in case you want to see some pics...

Pay admission and then the games are nickels? What a scheme. But, if they have a decent selection, no less of nice cabs (and they do look nice), well I guess it could be worse.
