« on: July 28, 2008, 09:55:57 am »
Where can I get an emulator for pinball machines?

Is this a simple process or complicated? I was at a friend's house and he pulled up some pinball's on this emulation thing and we played a couple. any help is greatly appreciated.

No, for asking for ROMs.  It's part of the rules you agreed to when you signed up.

With the exception of Gottlieb, most pin romsets are freely available. There is nothing illegal about the visual pinball software. The only questionable thing is the use of artwork in reproducing the games. If you are worried about this though, there are TONS of completely original pinball tables created for visual pinball.

In that case, I'm sorry.

Unfortunately places that have pinball ROMs also have other ROMs, so I can't link to any sites.  A Google search should help you.

I can't seem to be able to download the table images. I DLed the vpinmame and got the test mode part thingy to come up, but the site that house the table images I can't get to.

It seems to be a forum place and it won't show the verification code so I can't get to them.

You have to be a forum member and you have to be signed in.  It also helps to have donated money in the past so you're not subject to the max files per day limitations.

That is what I am saying. I would join the forum, but it won't show me the varification code to finish. Only forum site that has ever done that to me.

Newbies simply cannot understand the logic behind this policy. It's just something that comes along with being here WAY too long and being WAY too vested in the knowledge base.

Simply put, it would suck big time if the whole site was shut down and everything lost because of trading roms that are widely available at MANY other locations.

It's simpler than that.  ROM discussion is prohibited because the site owner says so.  That's all that needs to be considered.  The site owner pays the bills so we follow his rules.

ROMS is a four letter word.  Anytime you say it, call the fire department to put out the flames.

Despite the legality of ROMS, if I read the rules correctly, are we not supposed to discuss ROMS period?  Legal ones or not?

Despite if a hundred websites offer ROMS, it doesnt mean the ROMS themselves are legal to download, store or own.  It could be that stigma, "ROMS".  The PinMame & Visual Pinball ROMS could be legal or PD, but people still freak over the word ROMS....

That's eight times.
