JVC AV-27D304 has Dark Picture
« on: July 27, 2008, 09:31:00 pm »
I have this AV-27D304 here and the picture seems to be darker then it should be on all inputs. I decided to plug the old NES in via RCA cables so I could get some nice bright colors to compare with a similar but slightly older JVC, and yes the picture is displaying too dark.

The picture on the bad TV is displaying yellow as orange for one thing. I reset the settings in the Menu options, but it didn't help. I looked in the service menu quick for a reset to default settings but found none that jumped out so I didn't mess around with anything in there.

Doing a Google search, I found that this seems to be a common issue with this model, however I was unable to find a solution at any of the postings of the problem.

There seem to be quite a few knowledgeable people on these forums about TVs, and I would like to get this one working properly so I can use it in my second cab.

Thank you.

Thanks for replying.

I didn't think of checking the blue until you said that, so what I did was poped in Excitebike because it has a nice blue title screen. And it seems to be displaying blue fine. Went into the game and the sky looked nice and blue.

I'm wondering if maybe its the green? On Metal Gear, the green on the trees is very dark, sometimes black. But the brighter green on the grass on Excitebike seemed to be fine.

I did realize something though. I never checked the display on all the inputs after I reset the colors to default. I only checked them before. So wile I wait for a reply, I am going to try the component with my 360, and Halo 3 tv adjustment thing to see what I can come up with.

Component is the only input I really care about on this TV.

After going through that tweaking program. I am able to conclude that the contrast is fine. Picture is sharp like it should be. And I believe the tint is fine.

However, the first test was the brightness test. I was supposed to turn the brightness down to the lowest setting, then gradually increase it until I could see some insignia. At the maximum brightness I was unable to see it, but I believe it was very close. After putting the brightness to max with all other settings at normal, the picture looked pretty good, but not quite perfect.

Does that give you any clue's to what could be causing this? Or do you have a better method to calibrate a TV? I only have this Halo 3 bonus disc.
