Monitor or Television?
« on: July 19, 2008, 03:37:41 am »
Ok, so I really don't know what I should go with really?  I mean, I'm a little confused about connecting a TV up to a Computer, because I've done that before, and the Resolution wasn't the best (as in the whole desktop wouldn't show up).  I would rather go with a TV just because you can go bigger for cheaper then going bigger with a monitor. Though I would go with a monitor just because I don't know if there is something special you have to get so that you can connect a regular TV to the computer (but if there is... What is it called?)

Also, what is the usual size of screens in upright arcade cabinets?  Like the NEO GEO ones that have Metal Slug on them?

Thanks.

Sorry, I just read in the Monitor FAQ about using a SD TV.  But, I was looking on Newegg for a video card that does S-Video out, and wanted to know if this one would work:

Also, do you think that it would be able to support MAME Games?

What do you mean support mame games?  Also, you might be able to get a better card for about the same on ebay. For example, an Nvidia 6800 or Radeon X700 or 800 will have somewhat lower clocks, but the bandwidth for them is four times as much (a much more important factor). If you're just looking for good S-video output, then you have some googling to do. Of course, I'd suggest reading the wiki over again a couple times, and then searching the forums for examples of the things discussed in it. There are a few options, and different hardware approaches to address them. And, look at that recent thread on display results, linked in the Video overview.
