ATOMICFE HELP
« on: July 17, 2008, 08:05:18 pm »
Hi,
I installed the newest version of mame onto a new computer that I bought.  I copied some of the roms that I had from another computer into the 'new' mame's rom file. I decided to use ATOMIC FE as my frontend on the new computer. I was using mame32 on my old system. On the Atomic intro screen it shows me a lsit of games that are available but when I go to load any of them it comes back with an error messgae that says: Loading Display Expired Invalid Rom, None. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

What version number of Mame32/ui where you using before? If it was a much earlier version, then the ROMs you have may not work with the newest version of MAME.

I for one wish that there was a mamedev tool out there to convert ROM images from one MAME format to another, but I am sure it would be a big deal for the MAMEdev to make such a complex program (I presume it would be complex... For all I know they just put some text in the header that tells MAME whether or not it is allowed to run that version of the ROM and that version of MAME....)
--- Yes I AM doing this on purpose, and yes I DO realize it is pissing you off.

First, try to run your rom without Atomic.  As if i understand well you are using a mame32 , you can run directly mame32 , choose your rom and run it. To see if it works or not.

If it does not work,  as said protokatie , it is surely because your rom does not match with your mame version.  Some tool can help to fix that i think . Like Clrrom or Romcenter.

if it works and not with Atomic , here i could help you. But first be sure that it is not simply a rom problem.

Hi,
They definitely work with mame32. The version of mame that I am running on my old system was installed around 1998 so it is a fairly old version.
I look forward to the help.
Mike.

Best thing to do is get updated ROMs - google is your friend. Or, click on Help, then About in your Mame32 program, and get the same exact version to put on the new computer. Older versions of Mame can be downloaded here:

let me sumarise what you have:

You want run Atomic on your new computer.
You installed your old mame (from around 1998) on your new compute.
you copied your roms from the old computer to the new one.

Is it correct?

If you have a very old mame (if you could give me the version it  would be good) , you have to change some parameter in your config.

open you .Cfg with AtomicManager.
check the "advanced options" on the general tab
go on "advanded" tab
go on "emulator options" subtab

untick "send rom extension to the emulator"
untick " quote parameters"
tick "use only romname"

see this screenshot (sorry, it is in french here, but on the english version they are at the same location)

Hi,
actually I think I mixed fire and water based on what I have read. I downloaded the newest version of mame and put that on my new computer with the newset version of Atomic. I copied my old rom sets from my old computer and installed them on the new version of mame. I think my problem is the old roms sets will not work with the newest version of mame. Is this correct? BTW, I think the version of mame that I am running on my old system is 0.36. Now that's old school.
Thanks.

yes, in that case, i think your problem is your roms Set.

Hi,
I finally got things up and running. I changed version of mame from v.125 to v.100 and it seems to work fine. I couldn't get Atomic to work with the newest version of mame. I thank everyone for the help.

Hi Youki,
I was looking at an old post of mine (October 2007) where I had asked about designing a FE screen and back then you had offered to help me design one if I chose Atomic. IS that offer still good??

AtomicFE works with mame 125 , surely due to your rom set.

Does this layout would be good for your Poleposition cab?

Youki, how did you get Atomic to run in a window? I know its an odd questions, but I am developing my layout on my widescreened computer, but it will be run on a 4:3 in the end, and the widescreen distorts it when I test it.

First , you must put your windows Desktop in 16 bit/pixel mode (NOT 24 or 32 bits).

then open your startup .CFG file with notepad, and search for :  WINDOWMODE

and modify to have :  WINDOWMODE=YES

then if should start windowed.  I use this mode for my development , it is more confortable to debug.

If you are in 24 or 32 bits mode, the rendering is not correct if your layout use Alphablending , so it is why you have to swtich your desktop in 16bit mode.
