3Darcade mpeg videos now available on Kazaa
« on: June 06, 2003, 01:52:42 pm »
I know that a lot of people have been wanting these videos and Peter doesn't have the bandwidth to serve them up to everyone.  So, i've taken the liberty of downloading them all and putting them into a single zip file for redistribution over Kazaa (Peter is okay with this).  So, if you want to get these videos, please get them off Kazaa and not directly from Peter since the 3Darcade site has very limited bandwidth.

The file is called "3Darcade_mpegs_1.0.zip" and is 100MB in size.  Yes, you heard right, it's a full 100MB.  Keep in mind that downloading this at first will be very slow since i am the ONLY person at this time who has the file shared out and my upstream is only 128K/sec.  However; if we can get a few users to download from me and keep the file available, soon everyone could get it in no time.

One last thing - this file does not include the video for Q*bert (it was corrupted even after multiple download tries) or the purple "jukebox" video.  Once i can get these both in good mpeg format, i'll add them to the file and change the rev number.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.

You might want to look at bit torrent.  That way you can handle multiple people getting them.

I would like to use BitTorrent but i'm behind an unroutable NAT and can't use it.  Besides which, everyone i've ever talked to has had very little luck with it.  If someone else wants to get the package from me, then make a Torrent, i have no problem with that (and i doubt Peter would either).

I've also added the Q*Bert video to the zip.  Filename is the same since nobody has grabbed it yet.

EDIT: I've also added Jukebox.avi as well.  The file set should now be complete, with all known working videos.

You should use sig2dat and post a link on Peter's site to get them.

Put it on bit torrent, because if you do kazaa there is no way everyone can get it. It all depends on what supernode you are connected too. Once enough people download the torrent they can share it on kazaa too, and then it will spread alot better.

My personal collection of mpegs of more modern games (which I've arranged to send to peter)  hasn't been added yet so you'll have to remake that zip. :)

Also bittorrent is a pos... I rarely ever say that about any software as that's just bashing my own peers, but turst me it's a pos.  There is a 50/50 shot that the people wanting to get your files will actually be able to download them if the bittorrent protocol is used.

I suggest you look for another method. I told peter to look into aj's pinmame site.  The way they have things setup is very nice and as it uses good ole php and cookies, everyone can enjoy the service.

Kazaa, on the other hand, is a good idea as it spreads files quite nicely and is based on the popular morpheus ptp network, which isn't going away anytime soon.

Just my 2 cents.

You should use sig2dat and post a link on Peter's site to get them.

Dunno why i didn't think of that.  I've never made my own sig before, so hopefully this works.

Peter - Feel free to post this on your site once we determine that it works correctly.

It's just crappified. Copy the shortcut, and remove the http://" and the " at the end. Should do the trick, though I know nothing about what Sig2Dat is, I certainly know that there shouldn't be two protocol specifiers in ANY URL :)

What problems have you had with BitTorrent?  In everything I've tried to download, I've found it to be an amazing program.  Of course, the more people that use it, the faster the downloads, so perhaps what you were trying to download didn't have many users for that particular file?

BitTorrent is GREAT for people who want to give big files to a bunch of people!  Works GREAT!

But... it's not great for people who have broadband.  You can't leech as fast...

Newsgroups are hands down the best for this!  But you have fills to deal with... and not everyone has a good newsgroup server...

Last... I will try to put them up on the newsgroup if anyones interested... I can't find it on kazaa right now... and I haven't downloaded it yet... but trying...

According to the help file in Sig2Dat, this is the way that the link is supposed to be formatted.  In fact, i created it using Sig2Dat tools.  Not sure why it doesn't "just work" but you're right about it working if you remove the unnecessary portions.

If one of you BitTorrent fans wants to create a Torrent, that's fine with me.  Just gimme an FTP that i can upload to and i'll send you the file.  As i said, i can't use BitTorrent myself because of the ports it uses (though i'm dumping my DSL for Cable next week, so i might be able to host a Torrent then).  However; like i said before, i've heard nothing but bad things about BitTorrent.  Most of the people i know who use it get ~5K download speeds regardless of their connection speed.

For those of you who have searched Kazaa and can't find the file, i assure you it's on there and my machine is connected.  You are probably not connected to the proper "junction" to find the file on my machine.  Even though it's a peer-to-peer network, not every node can see every other node.  Until we have a few more users out there with the file, this is going to be a problem.  Nothing i can do about that other than to use a different distribution tool.

That is likely because either

A) the people who are downloading the file get it, and then cut off the Torrent

B) People who have it keep up the Torrent, but after a while shut it down, and then bring it back up.

Try downloading the Red Hat ISOs for example off the BitTorrent website.  Quite speedy.

Hc is right...i'll have to install a limiter first. Still looking for a good perl script...or help with one as I have no experience at all with cgi scripting.

Also there are some more options in the works see the sticky thread on the 3d arcade board  ;)

Corrected sig2dat link paste that into a browser.

sig2dat:///|File:3Darcade_mpegs_1.0.zip|Length:106706330%20Bytes,104205KB|UUHash:=us3XhHupSlOyLEhVmmRXPwLcR7g=|

The url function in yabb always prefixes the link with http.

Okay!  I've created a torrent.  Find it here:

And please, as many people as possible download it, and then keep the download open.

I finally got rid of my DSL and got cable modem instead.  Hopefully i'll be able to use BitTorrent now.  I'll give it a shot tonight which should add one more person to the mix.  If i can get the torrent file to download, i'll make it available on my Kazaa connection as well.

DK already supports them.... simply place them in your base artwork directory and name the folder you place them in "vids".....  your all set :)

I have the videos in the download section of my site.

Let me know if there are any that I don't have
I put it in two sections: One big file and all the files one by one.

Nice and simple. This is what I like to hear. How many files are in the zip?

Im guessing there is about 150 or so files in the zip.

It is all the videos that are zipped up on the bottom portion of the download page. (they were unziped and then zipped into the one file)

So when I open the zip I won't have a bunch of little zips runnnig around?

Also, that takes care of about 1/20 of the games. Where do I get the rest or how do I make my own?

Look in the forums at http://echo.messageboard.nl/2243/index.php

There are some instructions and links to programs that will make the videos

If you make any that I don't have (or better ones than I have) email them to me webmaster @ darrensweb.org and I will add them to the list.

It would be nice to get this list as complete as the screenshot collections available.

Just another mention.

There is a gnutella client that's an dll form.  If you really wanted a good way to move files....  If it was easy (haven't played with it myself) it would be kinda cool to have a P2P network with everyone else using the frontend.

I don't know about adding direct rom support.  But screenshots, marquees, models, movies, ect would be really really cool.... And maybe with a super secret password you could setup rom support also.

I always thought P2P in a frontend would be great for P2p... but with the new mp3 p2p laws going in... we might see...well...this going away...

I always thought P2P in a frontend would be great for P2p... but with the new mp3 p2p laws going in... we might see...well...this going away...

the multiuser arcades allready do this in my fe...but not p2p...but the fe checks if required files for an online arcade are allready on the hd if not then it will download it from the server...this so that all users see the same thing when they walk around ;-) But it could be easily expanded to p2p...allready there for the chat...and all other related files...

The codes already in there, it would be little to no change.

Also respectfully emutron is the most complicated fe out there.  :)
