ossibly heresy, but if I found the monitor and boardsets were both dead, I'd probably make it a dedicated MAME machine, running Star Trek on a 19" 4:3 LCD. Good luck!
There are no 4:3 19 inch LCD's! They're all 5:4

From what I've read, the MONITORS were infamous for catching fire, not the power supplies.

Power supplies can be bought from Bob Roberts, ArcadeShop, basically every non-MAME arcade parts vendor.

Oh yea. I'm running one in my bartop. If there is an aspect ratio difference, it's not perceptible.

It's not the same. "Famous" has the connotation of "good" fame, while "infamous" has the connotation of "bad" fame.

It was definitely the monitors that had a tendency to catch fire in Sega vector games.  Not the transformer.

If you love the star wars game (I barely remember it even after looking at KLOV screen shots) then by all means try to get it back to original.  If you don't and want a sit down mame machine then by all means MAME that sucker.  A chessy old pc and a cheap monitor would go in there pretty easy.  Toss in an encoder and you are good to go.  Instant star trek.

If you are looking for an upright cab then maybe sell it to fund the project?  I can't really tell from the pics if you could mount other arcade controls for other games.  I would want a sit down for driving games and star wars.  I guess it just depends on what you want to play.

The reality is it's YOUR cab and make yourself happy with it... although if there is a chance that it could catch fire and endanger my kids I would not have it in my house.

It would be a real shame to MAME that cab. Nice Star Trek c/p's are rare (hell, crappy ones are rare). I've seen nearly a dozen of those cabs and everyone has been a yellowed, converted nightmare.

Have you tried RGVAC yet? Many helpful guys there. Or just make a new account for Klov. I'd just farm out the repair work on the pcb, find a more reliable montor chassis, and install a switching psu. ST is a tricky game...be patient with it and you'll get it running again.

If you choose to take the easy way out get a Zector Vector Generator and keep a vector monitor in there. Or, better yet, find the cab a new home and build a Star Trek themed MAME from a more deserving cab.
