CPS 2 conversion with Soul Calibur *Almost done*
« on: July 14, 2008, 05:50:36 pm »
What's up everyone? About a week ago a scored a nice Non Dedicated Soul Calibur cab w/25 inch monitor working marquee light and coin mechs   ;D. I brought this cab with the intention of putting MSHvsSF in it and changing the marquee CPO, button layout T-Molding and the paint scheme. Here are some photos of the cab.

CPS 2 conversion with Soul Calibur

As you can see in the photos the colors are slightly off (especially in marvel) but after some adjustments I got it looking A LOT more acceptable and I'm also trouble shooting the issue with some helpful guys over in the monitor section of these forums. Moving along, the game had a SC CPO and four button layout so I stripped the CPO (which was in excellent condition sadly,) and there was a Soul Edge CPO underneath (photos towards the end.) After peeling that back i noticed that this cab at some point had a former life as a Capcom fighting game making my job a little easier (or so i thought.) Unfortunately, the metal panel looks like swiss cheese from all the button drilling and configuring done previously so I find myself at a cross road.  :dunno

Do I A: leave it be since the six button layout does line up decently though its a tad of set from the joystick.

Or B: by a sheet of sheet metal drill a new CP setup and cut out the existing CP and weld the new one in it's place.

For Now I will choose the former as I don't own a welder (yet) and I want to get this puppy up and running. As I continue to work on the cab and order things I will keep you all posted.

i think with plexi on top it should be fine. if you dont like where the buttons are then you'd hafta go the new metal panel route, last thing that metal needs is more holes.

looks like a great cab

Yea I definitely think new plexi will help the buttons, it's the most cost effective option I have. Thanks it is a pretty decent cab I just wish the Jack nuts who decided to turn this into Soul Calibur chose another cab and not butcher this CP .

Well after an extremely long period, I managed to get the plexi cut (using a drill and dremel tool) decided to sell the SC  PCB and replace it with another CPS2 game.   ;D

I still need to buy a new marquee and CP overlay but those will be brought soon I hope.

Pics to come soon.

After FINALLY getting married I am able to jump back in and work on my current project. I have begun priming the cab to paint it a deep blue.

New joysticks and buttons have been installed, and I ordered a brightness pot switch from Happ to go on the chassis for the monitor. Everything is coming together nicely and all I need to do is clean the inside of the cab, paint and order a new CPO and marquee   pics will be posted tomorrow.
