What's the trick to opening a imperial 3" trackball

I have a imperial trackball and it does not have any case screws so I am waondering how to open it without doing any damage I tried to pull it apart but with the force I feared I may break something and better ask.

Have you by any chance taken a peek into those deep holes in the bottom of the case?  ;)
