Primal Rage
« on: June 05, 2003, 09:49:53 pm »
I legally own the old DOS version of Primal Rage, and am trying to get it to run in Windows XP.  I've tried everything I can think of (compatibility mode), but every time I go to play it, it says that "Primal Rage requires at least a 486 processor".  I've tried using a DOS soundcard emulator as well, and I can't get it to work.   :'(

Any suggestions?  I've tried using the SNES emulator/ROM, figuring I legally own the DOS version and would play it if I could (this may not be totally legal, but I have no choice), but it doesn't play all the sounds 100% correct, and I don't believe MAME has ANY sound in Primal Rage if I'm not mistaken.

There used to be an old DOS TSR that would cause your BIOS to mis-report the CPU. Try looking down that path.

BTW, I like your website. Looks like you have some nice deals all around. I have a couple of friends who sell a hodgepodge of stuff on the net as well, and they love it. Pretty much, any time they find a REALLY good lot deal they buy it, and figure they can sell it within a couple of months because they can price it so low.

In many ways I agree, DOS is better.  Unfortunately, my controls are hooked up to my 2.4 Ghz computer that I also use for the internet/word processing/etc.  I do own a 300 Mhz machine that I use for older games/applications, but I don't have any arcade controls hooked up to them.

Any idea where I might be able to locate something like that?  I remember seeing that, but it's been several years.  I doubt there is much of a demand for it any more.  Thanks for the compliment on the website, I always appreciate input (good or bad) so that I can make it the best that it can be.

Have you tried dosbox or any of the other dos emulators?  These might do it..

It doesn't sound like a dos issue though.  It sounds like the software programmers didn't write it for pentiums.

It works ok on my PII 300 Mhz computer, so I'm not sure what its problem is.  I tried Dosbox, and it just closed the program right when I started it.  I tried Bochs as well but can't get it configured very well (complicated program).
