Mame plus dreamcast in old Zaxxon arcade machine
« on: July 09, 2008, 12:32:27 am »
HI all Been here a few years; haven't posted to much, but wanted to give back to this community for all the information I have gathered from all the posts I have read over the years.

a little history I was able to get a old Zaxxon cab for free, it was converted to a fighting game of some sort, and it was completely gutted.
It sat in my apartment for a about year or two before I started to do work on it.

I bought the I-pac first then the arcade controls  from X-arcade. then I got a spinner and then hacked a mouse for the roller ball.

I had a 25 inch TV in it but I didn't like the look of games, So as the prices of LCD's came down I decided to buy one. I got a 22 inch LCD. I used a lazy Susan so I could rotate for vertical games.

So its time to update the controls  in my mame machine. I'm thinking of something larger but unsure on how to do this at this time. I want to use LED lights and will most likely stay with ultimarc.

I also have a sega riding motorcycle that can be hooked up to the mame machine through a the A-pac, I have installed a LCD light gun and x-box guitar hero.

I bought a few dreamcast machine from ebay,  its funny I never knew the graphics on this console looked so good, so I plan to re-due the control panel so I can play games from the console.

SO as of today I'm here looking at different ways of cleaning up my mess of wires and most likely will go with cat5 cable.  I also want to update my controls with LED's and a  Matrix Orbital GX Typhoon USB Inverse Blue LCD to display stats of game and such...

Again thanks to all those who have inspired me in my quest and fascination with arcade machines..

Will post pictures with the re due here if people are interested..

thanks

Wow, you really do have a motorcycle hooked up. That is a first for me. I don't think that I would be able to manage having the part just sitting in my house. Good luck. Post your progress here, this site lasts for ever, your hosting may not ;), plus then we don't have to click on links :-D

sure, its a bit cramped but its a 2 joy stick 16 button layout hooked up by a i-pac, also a logitech marble mouse   hack for track ball type games and a spinner...

I thought the track ball or the spinner would get in the way of plying games but it all is fine...

I would like to incorporate a bigger control panel so I could put in full size track ball from ultimarc.

thanks for the interest...

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Though I don't care for the layout, I am interested in seeing how you incoporated a marble mouse into your control panel.
