Tron Monitor WG19K4906(?) – Blue Screen – Game Fine
« on: July 08, 2008, 01:14:16 pm »
Hi folks,

I recently picked up a Tron and have been doing a restoration. Yesterday, when I put everything back together and fired it up, the monitor made a constant, very high pitch squeal, and the picture is completely blue. All aspects of the game work otherwise (lights, game sounds, controls, etc); it plays blind fine. The model number in the subject line is from the “Rescue Tron” post on this board. I have not confirmed my model number, but am certain that I have the original monitor in a Tron upright.

So far I’ve cleaned and reseated all connectors, (double checking their placement against pictures from other Trons), made sure all socketed chips look seated, and checked fuses. I’ve done nothing with the electronics on the back of the monitor

Before stripping the cabinet, the monitor worked fine most of the time. Occasionally when turned on it would have small colored dots flashing around the screen. Other times the bottom 5% of the screen would be “stretched” or “pulled” to one side, and occasionally the screen would just have blue wavy lines on it. Turning the game off and on once or twice would usually bring the normal picture back up. I assumed all of this meant the monitor needed a cap, and planned on trying my first in the coming weeks. Could the all blue screen and the high pitched whine mean the monitor needs a cap, or does this indicate another problem?

I’m probably revealed as a novice when it comes to the electronics in these games, so thanks much for any suggestions.

Why haven't you done anything with the monitor?  Check the neckboard to make sure it's plugged in correctly, check the input to make sure it's plugged in as well.  That's a start.

Short answer = I'm a noob!

Actually, I've been fortuate up to this point to have had only PCB and PS related issues. So the monitor is a bit of an unknown, and I'm not sure where to start. I really just need to dive in and start learning. I appreciate the advice, and will double check connections tonight.

I have a WG 19k4906 in a cab that I am converting to a multiunit. I am going to put a new monitor in it as the current one has too much burn, If you need the chassis I would sell mine, it works fine but could use a capping as I'm sure it's been awhile.
If you run out of options LMK.
