NeoDS -- anyone tried this?
« on: July 08, 2008, 12:17:21 pm »
Just got NeoDS working on my NDS last night... didn't
even realize it existed until yesterday.  Can't believe
how well it works, even plays games like Metal Slug
and Ragnaard with full sound!

Now if only they would make mameDS...  :applaud:

Haven't tried it yet.  I just got my cyclods and have just been playing nds games for now.  I've been meaning to try some emulators as well

Do I need a GBA slot card to use this, or is a Evo or equivalent all I need?

I haven't tried it yet, but doesn't it work off an R4 card instead of the Gameboy slot?  I was thinking so, but could be wrong.

Alex Maul has a MAME emulator out there called Marca DS  vidmouse, if you haven't tried it, that is still a work in progress.  Some games have sound, some don't,  but the ones that run well (Pac-Man, DK), run really well. He also has a great Atari Advanced emulator known as PokeyDS (I forget which Atari version though).

Frodo DS, the C64 emulator was hard for me to program, but once I got it, it works fairly well also....has been fun playing "Forbidden Forest", "Pogo Joe", and "Miner 2049er" on my DS!

And while I'm running my big mouth, I can't forget jEnesis....the newest version is the first Genesis emulator for the DS (to my knowledge) to have sound support...and quite frankly, it just rocks!

Wow - longer than I meant it to be...sorry!

Don't apologize, that's all good.

I am using an R4 to play NeoDS...
be sure to convert the roms to .neo files
(converter included w/ NeoDS).

I also have a Tapwave Zodiac 2 to play
Genesis and SNES games, but I might
still load Jenesis onto my DS just to have
a digital stick vs analog that's on the Zod.

Now I just need a good video player for the
DS...

I take it you've tried Moonshell :D

My problem is finding a DPG converter that works.  The most recent updates to Batch DPG have left me confused....wondering how in the world I ever got Batman Begins, Cars, and other titles I've purchased transferred to the DS.  And, of course, the new instructions stink and I've lost / deleted my copy of the instructions that accompanied version 1.0.

Anybody able to help there, it's appreciated! Batch keeps telling me it can't convert .avis to .dpg (that may be so, I really don't know).

Actually I have not tried Moonshell... can it do avi's?
I've tried converting avi's to dpg's but run against the same problem you have I think... will look into this more later.

Also tried using Tuna Vids but can't seem to get it to work right either... the menu loads ok but the avi file will not load, even after I use VEMODE to code it to the correct screen res...

You have to convert to dpg to use moonshell as well from what I've read

You're correct.  What vidmouse and I were talking about was the fact that we can't get the current version of Batch DPG to run correctly.  No, moonshell doesn't do .avi's by itself by the way.

I am certain that what I did the first time was to copy several DVDs I currently own to the computer as .avi files, then process them through BatchDPG to create the .dpg file.   But for the life of me, nothing I do right now with that DPG converter program works....it always tells me there's an error and never makes the new file.

Woo hoo, I got Batch DPG to work!

steps:
1)  Google Batch DPG and download v 1.3 beta 4 from a torrent site...
should come with Avisynth 2.5 but if it doesn't you'll need to download
that as well.
2)  Run Avisynth first and install it.
3)  Run BatchDPG
> Select the avi that you want to convert under "Media file"
> Select the output directory
4)  Press "Add"
5)  Press "Run" and wait and wait
6)  Copy the new dpg file to your flashcard and run via Moonshell.

RTSDaddy -- this worked fine for me, was even able to save some Youtube videos, convert them to avi's via Pazera Free FLV to AVI converter, and then Batch-DPG them into DPG's.

Maybe an uninstall/reinstall would help...?

I'll give it a try again mouse, because there's certainly some classics ("Smokey & The Bandit", "Cracking Up" - well, ok they're classics to me) I would not mind having for viewing on vacations, etc.

I could have SWORN I was trying to convert an .avi file,  but maybe that's been my problem all along - I can think of one that might have been .mpg when I thought it was .avi....that may have caused it.

I'll make .avi files first, then try and covert, let  you all know how that goes for me.  I'll also try the uninstall / reinstall.  Glad you got it going!

I'd consider "Smokey & the Bandit" a classic.  Not sure about "Cracking Up"... maybe
I need to watch more movies!

For me, it's good for various tv episdoes I missed b/c of kids or work time...
I take a lot of work flights so it's good for when I have to go out of town
or at airports.

Haven't converted many of my classics yet, but when I get around to it:
Magnificent Seven
300
Transformers the Movie (the original one, not the 2007 one)

What I really love is that the battery life on my DS is like 10x (probably more)
the life of my Tapwave battery.

Hope you can get it going!
