Illustrator help
« on: July 08, 2008, 06:00:39 am »
I hate Illustrator :p

Does anyone know why when I set some text to red, it just sets it to grey? I don't remember having this problem in the past.

Seems like it is in greyscale or something, but I can make a red rectangle.

You are probably using greyscale color setting.  I know how to change to RGB in Photoshop but it's different in Illustrator. Hmm try Edit->Edit Colors->Convert to CMYK or RGB. I don't use Illustrator much so it's a stab in the dark.

That's what I thought it was...but it's not. In File > Document Color Mode, it is set to RGB Color (there is no greyscale option).

As I say, I can draw a red rectangle so I don't think it is in greyscale.

I used to like graphics packages, but Illustrator is one thing that really makes me lose my rag nowadays  >:(

I am a noob in illustrator but i also had this. I f i remember correctly select the text right click (if you have windows) and then select something to flatten or rasterize the image (i am really unsure what it was called.) now the text is a vector and you can color it what ever you like.

Tried 'Flatten Artwork' in the layers toolbox but no good!

Can you convert it to outlines first and then colour it red?
Maybe you use some weird font.

Is it just one particular font or all fonts?

Thanks guys...

It is not a standard font but by drawing a new text box I seemed to be able to colour it fine. I still don't understand why I cannot change the colour of the original one, but I can just delete that now.

Thanks again to everyone!

It sounds like you were in the text edit mode.
That is when you have the type tool selected and you see a blinking cursor in the text box.

Here are two ways to change text color.
1) Click and drag to select the text. Than select the color you want from the swatches.
2) Go to the direct select tool (Black arrow) and selct the text box.
You should see a box around the text. Pick your color and all text in the box will change color.

This is what I did...but the colour changed from white to grey (I picked red).

I just tried this, and same thing; the text turns grey, not the colour I pick.

 ???

That's weird.

If you are using Windows,
Try hitting <CTRL> Y.  That will toggle between Outline and Preview mode.
You want to be in Preview mode.

That's weird.

I agree! It's as if somehow the textbox is in greyscale while the rest of the document is not  ???

Definately in preview mode.
