D9200 board failure
« on: June 05, 2003, 03:24:38 pm »
I recieved a new D9200 a few weeks ago.  My cabninet is still under construction so not much time spent on the d9200.  It went from a great picture to a dim nearly colorless picture (green/gray tint) after shutting it down and starting it back up a few hours later.  The on screen menu looks fine, at least it's not dim. A Wells Gardner tech said it was probably IC101 and possibly IC103. Wells Gardner is sending out a replacement chassis.

Anyone else ran into this problem?  Any difficulties swapping the chassis boards I should lookout for.  I see there is a big hunk of putty holding the neckboard in place.

This sounds almost exactly the same as what happened to mine after about 10 hours.  Boy did I freak, I thought I was going to have to ship the entire thing back! (big $$$!)

Anyway, they thought it was the neck board.  So I replaced that first.  That required using a razor to cut the rubberish sealant holding it on at the tube neck.  It slid right off and I tried the replacement one (my replacement electronics were not brand new, unfortunately).  I never put another sealer to hold the new neck board on. I probably should, but I need to find out if some regular silicone chaulking is safe to use, or what exactly I should use.

That didn't fix it.  So then I (nervously) discharged the tube.  No spark or noise happened, so I assume the auto-discharge feature was working as it should.  Then I swapped all the remaining boards.  There was really nothing tricky to it.  I didn't even remove it from my game cabinet (thankfully - I wasn't looking forward to doing that since the thing is so heavy!).

It worked!  And has worked fine ever since.

This really sucked for me because I had just got my cabinet all together and working and then the freakin' monitor died!  It was so anticlimactic!!

The replacement chassis showed up yesterday. They were not new parts.

Since the replacement boards were already connected together I figured I should swap them all since maybe they are matched up.  My tube also seemed to be dischagred.  I swapped the boards without to much effort and the monitor seems ok.  Hopefully I can get my cabinet finished before long so that I can give it to a real test.

Did you have to eat the return shipping costs of the old parts?

I ate the return shipping but I didn't even try to get them to pay it.  I was just happy that all I had to do was ship the old part back.  Shipping for me was only about $10, I used Fedex Ground.  I was happy to only be out $10!
