I'm looking to add Daphne to my stable of emulators, and I've been doing a bit of research about how it all works. However, there's a few things I'm still not 100% sure about, and I'd like to get them cleared up before I run out and spend $60 on the 20th Anniversary DVD set.

1. I know that Daphne Downloader can make things a lot easier if you verify it with the official DVDs. However, can you still use the files it downloads if you want to run Daphne in command line mode (which would be the case for Mamewah), or can you only use them if you're playing through the official GUI?
2. If the answer to the above question is no, then is there some "sneaky" way around it, or will I have to rip the files myself using dvd2daph?
3. If I have to use dvd2daph, then is there any noticeable difference in video quality between the DVD-Rom and DVD video versions of Dragon's Lair 20A? The DVD-Rom version is out of print, and I read that dvd2daph 3.0 can rip from the DVD Video version, so is there any reason I'd want to bother hunting down the DVD-Rom version?

Thanks in advance! :)

Just by whatever version you need to use dvd2daphne.  It works great and running things off the command line works perfectly.  I have had DL, DL2 and Space Ace in my cabinet for several years now.

Just use the program "daphne for dummies" from http://www.laserarchive.com/ddl/
no fuss no muss it'll download all the needed files and set them up for you.

Like I said, I don't know what kind of restrictions Daphne Downloader imposes since it's "licensed." I haven't read anywhere that you can use the Daphne Downloader versions of the games through a command line, which would be a major drag since I want to set it all up to run through Mamewah. At any rate though, the downloader versions will be availible to if I get the DVDs, so if that doesn't work out I can always rip the DVDs using dvd2daph.

So, since dvd2daph does support the DVD-Video versions of DL 20th Anniversary, I guess that's the best option to go with for now. I also checked eBay for the DVD-Rom version and found nothing, so it's not like I have a choice anyway.

I bought the "Dragon's Lair 20th Anniversary Special Edition Set" 3-n-1 DVD on eBay it it turns out it did not work with Daphne.  You want the Playstation 2 DVD version which can be bought on Ebay for $1 + shipping.

You don't have to use the validation that is built into daphne, you have the option of supplying your own mpg files. You can use dvd2daph to generate them or use "daphne for dummies" to download them.

I did the same and it even STILL says it should work on the Daphne forum stickies and Wiki...after I was told it was changed so no one else would have the same issue.  you guys aren't the first because a few have done this over at the Daphne forum too.  The version you have simply has the horribly compressed mpegs from the old CD-ROM set.  I went and got the HD PC DVD-ROMs instead of going for another shot at the SD DVD-VIDEO.  The HD ones aren't supported in Daphne as is, but I ded some extensive vid editing and got them working.  If you want an easy solution get the right 20th Anniv off ebay.

If you want the 20th Anniv just make sure you get the DVD-VIDEO 3 disc boxed set, not the single DVD-ROM box (which looks identical)

TxGlenn is talking about the single DVD-ROM witht he old CD-ROM mpegs.  That will NOT work.  You probably have the DVD-VIDEO box set with multiple discs.  That will work.  Digital Leisure really screwed over some Daphne hopefuls by making the name and packaging identical on these two very different products.

Could someone please verify that this version will work with Daphne, and I will be able to use all three games?

the daphne team prefer people do it legitimately being as its possible to do so, getting hold of a dvd lets you use their torrent which is im told very good quality. i did it and it worked for me, the dvds cost me a whole £1 to play legally and respect the wishes of the devs who've worked hard on daphne and brokering the deal with digital leisure.

and dont link to r_mburners , not allowed on this site

Just trying to help a brother out.

i didnt see it as anything else but trying to help, i just wanted to point out the way the daphne devs prefer it, and for roughly the same price as doing it illegally you can pick up a dvd and do it legally.

you didnt need to remove your post only the link to the 1st site was a problem. the rest was perfectly legitimate.

Thanks.

As long as each game is on its own DVD and the DVD is a DVD-VIDEO, not a DVD-ROM, you should be OK.  It also must be a Digital Leisure set.  Best thing is to ask on the Daphne forum.

Well for the record, the copy I have is a laser disk I purchased from ebay.  It is an original disk and I simply extracted the video images for Daphne.  I got the Sony LDP (non-working), and the disk for $200.00.

But, I personally use daphne & bootleg DVD versions.  IMO, the quality is 10X better and you can configure Daphne so much easier and better than what Digital Liesure software offers.

Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers here.  I just didnt think anything about the legality of Daphne & ROM burners, since it is so readily available, easy to get and the obvious fact Digital Liesures doesnt seem too concerned about upholding their license.

My bad.....
