Just wondering if anyone else has picked this up... 

The local stores won't have it til in the morning, so I downloaded the "Trial" version yesterday and have been playing with it.  So far, I like it.

The sad thing is that one is tame compared to some of the other ones going around, such as the goatse one.

I downloaded the trial. I MIGHT buy the full version, but then, the trial could hold my interest enough until the full game is out.

I certainly won't buy the trial until they fix the many many bugs.

I have to agree with the bugs issue.  Particularly after sending some of my creatures to the Sporepedia.  Luckily, I found a fix in the forums there.

I'm hoping, since they delayed this several times and months already, that the finished game in September has a more "updated" version of the CC, with a majority of the bug issues addressed...  Otherwise, we'll be needing a patch on release day.

What problems are you encountering? Here are mine (I couldn't find solutions):

- The CC will not tolerate being minimized or losing focus. If it gets minimized, clicking on it (on the taskbar) to bring it back causes it to immediately crash quit. (It generates a crash dump file when it does). This bug means I cannot click on ANYTHING in the game that opens an external browser.

- All graphics settings stay at the defaults no matter what I set them to (including resolution). That means I'm not seeing shader effects, shadows or anything cool even though my graphics card supports them.

- There's lots of blips, chks, and noise in sound effects, eventually leading to just a buzzing sound out of the right speaker. Reducing the SFX volume to zero mutes it out (but then I have no SFX).

- The front page pop up is blank unless I let it sit there for almost a minute.

- Spinning the galaxy is erratic (but who cares, that's just an easter egg)

The biggest issue that alot of people have with the CC is from saving the creature to the Sporepedia online.  Sometimes, the creature will disappear from your catalog entirely.  It should still be stored in the proper folder on your system tho.

As for the "popup" window, that's only for the trial version.  If you buy the CD containing the full creator, the window's not there anymore.

I read about disappearing creatures, but coincidentally the guys were making "dick monsters" and had dirty words in the creature names. I'd guess EA is killing off obviously offensive submissions.

Maybe it's the medication I'm on, or maybe it's my immature sense of humor, but that video in that link had me laughing so hard that I was literally crying.  (Probably from the pain of having bruises on my chest and laughing hard).

Just a quick question to those who've bought the CC...

What's your view on the Secu-ROM? 

I'm not exactly tickled with it.   It seems to have been an issue on other EA games, as well.

Looks like I'm done with mine... 

I'm guessing my PC has told the servers on the official site that I've used up my limited 3 installs... I can't even get the CC to run AT ALL.

So, I'd hold off on buying the full game after release in September til EA figures out exactly what they're going to do with the problems this thing's inevitably going to have.

If you replace the game's exe with the trial version's exe, it will run -- I believe.  However, you will only be allowed to use 50-75% of the parts. It is better than the trials version's 25%, but not as good as the full version.

In my opinion, Secu-Rom and all other copy protection generally end up hurting the honest customers more than people who crack/download games. It only takes so long before someone cracks the game; after that happens, the only people who have to deal with the copy protection are the people who actually bought the game.

These guys are the ones I'm having the most fun with. I don't assume I'll use them in the actual game. I just thought it'd be cool to make a series of Mini-Dinosaurs.

Cool stuff. It's amazing what can be done so easily in their editor. And stuff like the sounds they make change based on what you pick (and the size) too!
