Big Buck Hunter pro - Tournament

Big Buck Hunter pro

I played a different hunting game that had a Chicago tournament and I got into the top 15.  This game confuses me.  It states the high score on every hunt and even if I kill all of the targets I still can't get half of the high score.

How is that possible?

There are bonus animals (possum, rabbits, birds…) that can be killed during the hunt, but those animals are only worth a couple of points, not enough to double my score.
If any of you play this do you have any advice.
