Hi guys, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a straight answer when I searched.  This is a simple question: Can anyone tell me the proper measurements for this DK Jr. sideart?
http://www.mamemarquees.com/donky-kong-sideart-p-478.html  Should I just ask mamemarquees for the "original size of the initial scan" like they say on their site?  It will be going on an original DK cabinet (that's been painted orange).   Thanks!

UPDATE: After looking around and comparing a little bit, I discovered that the mamemarquees version of the DK Jr sideart might not be accurate to the original?  The one at http://www.quarterarcade.com/Game.aspx/1206 doesn't have the stars, and DK JR. and the bird's wings are a different color.  KLOV's image of the game looks more like quarterarcade's version.

Is one more accurate than the other?  Wade?  FrizzleFried?  Anyone else who's done a DK Jr. restoration care to help?

Have you tried....

 ArcadeShop Amusements ::

or Mike's Arcade :

or QuarterArcade :

Those vendors have the accurate repros for the sideart and they're silkscreened, which is better than mamemarquee's inkjet stuff.

Hmm... what to do...

I hadn't seen the ArcadeShop and Mike's arcade item listings for the sideart, but I thought the Quarterarcade version had colors that looked WAY oversaturated.

I placed an order on Saturday with mamemarquees for their version because it just looked better to me, even though I knew it wasn't 100% accurate.  I figured nobody I know would know or care about the difference.  But I didn't realize that their stuff was printed on an inkjet, and that worries me a little bit.  Does it really make that much of a difference?  Will it be less durable or prone to fading over time (it'll be away from windows, but still)?  Should I try to cancel my order and place one with somebody else?

Opinions?

The large format printer that he uses is pretty high quality. I know that it uses special uv inks and is usually laminated with a uv overlaminate. His stuff will last a pretty long time. No ink really has a chance of lasting as long as paint, but if you are keeping it away from a window, it could technically hold its colors for many years before it fades.

FYI all more recent arcade machines have printed side art and I know that my gauntlet legends side art looked perfect.

I never noticed the stars thing with mamemarquees version.  Where'd they come from?   I had original DKJr side art on my Double Donkey Kong and I can say without a doubt the stars aren't supposed to be there.

Yeah, I have no idea where the stars came from... the other major differences are that the bird's wings are yellow instead of blue, and DK and DK Jr's colors seem to be switched.  Wish I'd noticed all that before placing the order, but who knows; maybe it'll arrive and be different from what they've got on the site.  I'll be sure to let everyone know when it gets here.

Anyway, 100% accuracy isn't the most important thing to me - this cabinet has already been modified enough that I'm not concerned with keeping it absolutely true to the original.  I do still think the end result will be cool, though!!

As for the inkjet printing, I'm sure it will be okay in the basement.  I'm glad to hear it's got some kind of coating on it, though.

I must claim guilty, I am the one who traced the DKJr side art with the stars (shame on me)

the scan I worked from had the stars, so the trace I made include the stars.

I'm on the planning stage

Just for what it's worth, never make judgements on color saturation based upon a digital photo on a website.  What you can go by is the multitude of feedback from others that tell you that a silkscreened version from pretty much any vendor will be superior in almost every way.

In this case arcadeshop, mikesarcade or quarterarcade would have been the best choice over mamemarquees for both accuracy and quality.   Whenever a silkscreened option exists for something buy that one rather than the inkjetted one.  Save the inkjets for the one off stuff that just won't ever be screened.

Hey zorg, no problem.  Someone's got to figure all this stuff out.  Thanks for taking the time to do it in the first place!

Hi prOk, unfortunately I didn't know of the silkscreen vs. inkjet disparity until after I'd ordered.  I didn't see that information anywhere on any of those sites' product descriptions, but maybe I could have found it if I'd dug a little deeper.

In any case, the sideart arrived today from mamemarquees and I think it looks phenomenal.  I'm really pleased with the quality and I have no concerns about durability or fading.  Earlier today, Scott from mamemarquees contacted me directly after reading this thread, and attempted to make things right by offering to send a corrected version with the colors and stars edited for greater accuracy.  I am very, very impressed to have received this level of service and I'd definitely recommend mamemarquees to anyone considering using them.

zorg, the only part of the trace that's inaccurate is the stars.  You should just be able to delete that layer, no problem.  Otherwise you did a fantastic job. :)

Choice....any chance you could snap a pic of what the machine looks like with that version of sideart on it? I think it would be interesting to see it.

Sure, I'll put it on with a little tape and you can see how it looks. :)

corrected version, without the stars (my bad) available here: http://vectorlib.free.fr/DonkeyKong/

@FrizzleFried: found the psd file I traced from, but I was not able to locate the source. so everyone should take this vectorization with caution.
accuracy is unknown.

Sorry to bring this up, but I did not see this...

What is the measurements of the artwork?  Need to print something similar (for a MAME system and its the same shape), just need the sizes)
My projects...

Finished:  Stargate (only 'cause I got it that way)
In progress:  Tron, 48-in-1 for School Auction, DKJr (currently a 60-in-1), Millipede, MAME System

Can I ask a quick question about the feel of the sideart?

Is the laminate over the top loose from the actual art print?

Also, how vibrant are the colours?

Some photos would be great!!!
