Need help running PC games through Mamewah
« on: June 12, 2008, 03:02:07 am »
Once again, I seem to be having trouble with correctly setting up my Mamewah inis, and this time, it involves getting my PC games to run. I followed the directions described in the wiki, and created a folder full of shortcuts (.lnk files), which I then set up Mamewah to run. However, it didn't work, and when I check the log it says "emulator_executable:  does not exist in RunGame!" for when I tried to run the game. I've been :banghead: at it for about an hour or so, and finally decided I need to ask for some help. Here's what my .ini for PC games looks like right now.

Code: [Select]
### PC.ini (mamewah v1.62) ###

emulator_title                            PC

### List Generation Settings ###
rom_path                                  C:\games\PC\PC Links\
rom_extension                             lnk
dat_file                                  auto
nms_file                                  auto
catver_ini_file                           auto
list_generation_method                    auto

### Execution Settings ###
pre_emulator_app_commandlines
emulator_commandline                      [name]{autodosbox}{nosafelaunch}
post_emulator_app_commandlines
general_app_commandlines

### Artwork Settings ###
artwork_image_paths                       auto
movie_preview_path                        auto
movie_artwork_no                          1
enable_fuzzy_search                       0
history_dat_file                          auto
history_dat_artwork_no                    2

### Screen-Saver Settings ###
enable_music_in_screensaver               1
select_random_game                        0
saver_type                                gamelist_slideshow
movie_path
movie_fullscreen                          1
quit_delay                                0
saver_commandline

### Additional Settings ###
music_path
lcd_display_file_path
description_display                       [description]{scroll}

### Settings used by MAMEWAH ###
current_list                              0

As always, any help is appreciated.

emulator_commandline                      [name]{autodosbox}{nosafelaunch}

Change this line to:

emulator_commandline pc

Also I would set your list_generation_method to 'rom_folder'.

BTW, does anyone know of a way to make it so that all games exit when the esc. key is pressed? It's not that big of a deal, but it would make the overall experience that much more seamless...

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

There's the program closemul (something like that, I've never used it. Hit search).

Or if you're using an Ipac/Minipac, you can setup controls for just that game and save the profile, then load it in mamewah for just that game. That way you can map exit to whatever you'd like.

One too many E's!

Heres the link - http://lustar.free.fr/clusters/closemul/

I do Ginsu's second option for PC games though, remap my "esc" key to Alt-F4 for windows games.  Theres usually too many menus and confirmations to make clean exits otherwise.

Corrected....and it's always nice to have someone back you up, rather than say, "Bah! You fool! Here's how it's done, monkey!"

Cool beans. I've tried Closemul, and it's an okay program, but I became a little disenchanted with it when I found out there were better ways to accomplish a lot of it's features that didn't involve extra software.

Automatically switching Ipac profiles sounds like the ticket to ride on, though, especially since in some of the playstation roms I'll be running through Mamewah will require different layouts from each other.
