vga pinout help needed
« on: June 09, 2008, 01:00:49 pm »
i posted here http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=80977.0
but could not modified the topic so started this new one.
I manage to find red green and blue  plus ground connections on the monitor, mi qwestion is,
can a monitor only work with those and ignore the rest of the cables.
Because i cant figure what the 12 remainding cables are for, probably they are for the touch screen function.
Thanks for any help.

There should be a couple for each of the three colors, and a couple more for the Horz & Vert sync.

I would say it would work unless you have connected the signals wrong. Why not just try and see what happens. Those other 12 pins are most likely just the power/ground and signal for the touchscreen functions. The very worst is the monitor would not detect the touchscreen and would go into power save. Most likely it will just work like normal. If you want to throw the model up here and someone may have more info on the screen you are using and a pinout of the connector so that you can use the touch functions.

more then likely it is the composite sync wire where H and V are together.

so those that means i can just buy a female vga imput, solder the cables where they belong, red in pin 1, green pin 2,blue pin 3, and sync on 13, and ill have a basic display, no need of monitor id bits or vertical sync at 14.
Im i right?

You will also need to find the ground

If it is going to run composite and has it's own path the v can be left alone.
