Real life "Office Space"

Remember that scene in Office Space where the guy goes nuts on the fax machine?  He ain't got nothing on this guy:

Here's some of it from another angle, in color, with audio:

Is there an online story to go with it?  What a ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?--- that guy was to throw that monitor into that ladies face.  And even more so, the other guys just watching this guy break down.  I'm not sure how or why you wouldn't defend "your area" once that guy entered it and after he had hurt other coworkers.  It wasn't like he was a real tough guy.

If Americans do not have "work-space police" like in Europe to deal with these inhabitable working environments, MAN must stand up to these evil jobs. 10 points for this guy, 1 lost though for throwing monitors at collegues.

Second thought, it is the new video-clip for Feist's "My Moon My Man".
The music ran along the clip on iTunes and is a perfect match.

I wonder what country this is from, since I don't hear English being spoken.

If that was my workplace, he would've gotten as far as hitting the first guy. The monitor never would've got tossed....he would have.

Having been in a similar situation (except mine involved stopping an attempted murder), I don't tolerate that crap.

I thought taser too, but I wasn't 100% sure.  I didn't actually see anyone with a taser, and the sound could have just been fabric ripping.

It sounds vaguely French to me, but I haven't listened closely to try to pick out any words.

At the very end, you see the guard stretch out with what appears to be a taser and give the guy one last jolt. I never saw the taser come out either, but that is definitely what the security guy hit him with at least at the end.

Maybe she's a loud chewer that orders Indian food and eats it at her desk while she calls her mom whose partially deaf to complain about her latest ex-boyfriend.

Or she could be one of those people that laughs loudly until someone asks her what she's laughing at.  If no acknowledges her she just keeps laughing louder. This way she's not purposely disrupting work to show people a video of a cat falling off of a tv after it falls asleep.

I think he should get an extra 20 points for every tooth she loses.

Apparently some people think this video may be fake, although the jury is still out.  One of the main points I've seen brought up is that the monitor he throws isn't plugged in and doesn't have any cables attached to it, as if it was prepared to be easily thrown.  It could be they were in the process of hooking up or disconnecting the monitor just before the event, so who knows.

EVERY video has someone online calling it fake.

Hell, some people claim the moon landing and the holocaust never happened, so why listen to those people?

Because there have been several office freak out videos (although not as long or extreme as this one is)  released in the past few years that have been fake.  Lots of viral videos are fake, so it makes sense to at least question the authenticity of this one.

My CRT monitors at home do not have permanent attached power or video cables. Both just plug into the back. It is quite likely that by yanking the monitor that both plugs popped off of the back.

That is definitely a real video.

I wonder what country this is from, since I don't hear English being spoken.

It must be America.

Someone used their cell phone to capture it on video.

I thought it was funny when the guy with the cell phone was recording the other guy with the cell phone (who was also recording).

The people look and sound East Asian (of some sort) to me.

And it doesn't matter what nationality...why are businessmen all such ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?---?  Nobody bothered to gain control of him until the security arrived.  Even after he chucked a monitor at a woman.

What's also humorous is that all these people just sit or stand there and watch.  That woman should have had the sense to get up before a monitor came her way.
I'll exercise patience when you stop exercising stupidity.

I agree that it seems real and probably is real, but with fake videos becoming a real common thing, it would be a bit gullible to automatically assume it absolutely is not fake.  I guess I've just become a bit jaded because now I require proof that videos are real instead of proof that videos are fake.  Has the news article for this incident surfaced yet?

I just did a little searching around to see what others are saying and several places are saying this took place in a Russian newspaper office.

Another odd thing other places have mentioned is that the date is in the standard US format (MM/DD/YY) not the european and russian format (DD/MM/YY), although it could be explained by it being an American made camera.  I'm still not convinced one way or the other.  If it is fake, then they should be commended at the fantastic job they did making it look real.  If it is real, then a newspaper article on the incident should start making the rounds before too long.

It just happened.

We ignored her first three outbursts, and then finally someone humored her.

AND it was a photo with cats.

The cutest thing I've seen was a monitor flying into some beach's face.

The language sounded Slavic, maybe Russian? The people in the video kind of looked like your typical Russians.

And how can anyone think this is funny? Is watching the Zapruder film or Saddam's execution funny, too?

i was particularly moved by his colleagues who decided to film it, rather than help an obviously very disturbed co worker.

The only thing I found funny about it was the fact that more people cared about getting it online than helping the situation. Like how I mentioned one person filming another person who was also filming. Insanity.

Nothing funny at all about what actually went down.

Quote
That woman should have had the sense to get up before a monitor came her way.

It happened so quick, she must've been stunned at what she was seeing.....like all the other people who stood around.

When I stopped a man from finishing off his wife who he'd just shot, everyone else was just watching and I was the only person to spring into action. I took his keys out of his car, and when he came back to flee the scene, we fought until the highway patrol showed up and arrested him.

There was no one on that video with the balls to step up and handle the situation. "Oh, just call security and duck monitors for now, folks"

They couldn’t call because they were too busy recording with their phones.

...and for whatever reason, they weren't doing a good job at ducking monitors either.

I just have to assume that the people who feel it is fake have never worked in an environment like that. There are some weird ass people who work in office environments. That is one reason I work where I do - because I wanted to work  with 'normal' people. I may make a few grand less a year, but it is worth it to be able to sit around the lunch table and not worry about political correctness.

I've worked at two previous "cubicle jungles", and it always felt awkward as hell, and I could TOTALLY see this incident playing out just like that if it were at one of those places.

I dunno, why the heck should I step in and get hit with a large inanimate object? I get paid in my office for tech support, not fight breaking upping. Im not gonna give you  the "its not my job" BS line Im tellin ya I try to get along with everyone in my office so that when this does happen, the monitors will be flying the opposite way (of course we have tiny 15" LCDs x 2 where I work)

Im sure he didnt just chuck that at her cause she was there, I have no doubts she was a total cockholster; my only proof is only 1 person checks to see if shes ok. If that did happen at my office there is no way in hell you could make me feel bad about not breaking it up. Of course no one in my office would have pulled at a cell phone to record it, thats grounds for instant termination where I work.  :dunno

EDIT: rewatched it again, I think he was just trying to destroy 2 monitors with one shot, the one he throws kinda bounces off hers then hits her.

If I'd been there I'd have been trying to talk him down and then take him down. Might have gotten my behind handed to me. Dunno. If it was just hardware I'd have stayed back, but when he was putting people in danger I couldn't have just watched.

Speaking of people being useless:

I saw a news clip on the Spanish channel this morning so I don't know the real story.

What's really sad is I don't think this was the same clip I saw, since the one I saw had a guy on a motorcycle weave around the fallen guy AND another guy walking across the street, not stopping.

Hey I got a raise today, and I didn’t even ask.  The owners were doing reviews for people who started in the middle of the year.  I’m thinking those people didn’t ask for as much as they could have.

I won’t be throwing monitors in my office anytime soon.

Keep the good energy flowing and help a stranger this weekend.

That's not funny. Those self made USA cowboy cops playing their own judge as well are the shame of the country.

I don't get how that statement applies to the clip.  He seemed to be following procedure (as far as I know) and maced an uncooperative suspect who may or may not be potentially dangerous.

Although the video does look staged.   The suspect seems way too over-the-top.   And the Office Incident looks staged too.

It is fake.  It's a viral video made for a new Angelina Jolie movie called Wanted.

That's a stupid way of advertising. If you weren't told that it's an ad, how the hell would you know?

"Wanted" looks horrible. Night/Day Watch were great, but I've laughed at how bad Wanted looks since the first trailer hit.

That is the dumbest ---smurfing--- thing I have ever heard of. The director of the movie has some rock video of the viral thing on his russian blog site. It even included footage from the office guy's camera attached to his tie.

Congrats to the guy for pulling off a sweet viral video, but his whole theory on how and why? I think he needs to learn a few things about "advertisement".  :laugh2:

If I'd been there I'd have been trying to talk him down and then take him down. Might have gotten my behind handed to me. Dunno. If it was just hardware I'd have stayed back, but when he was putting people in danger I couldn't have just watched.

If the dude was freaking out on his own computer i'd let him vent.  As soon as it become a physical issue with the surrounding people,  I am going in regardless.  That said,  I'd likely end up being the poor schmuck who got whacked in the head with the keyboard.

It funny, some people have the "get themselves killed" instinct, and some don't.

I was in a K-Mart store a few years back, when a woman nearby screamed "Hes got my wallet!" as a kid went running out the door.

I dropped my items  on the counter (I was in line to checkout) and sprinted after him.  About halfway across the parking lot the "WTF am I doing?" logic started to kick in.

Luckily, the kid jumped in a waiting car and took off.  All I could do was get the license plate #.  As I was walking back to the store, the security officer finally caught up.
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

In this version you get to see from the point of view of the crazy guy at parts...

...and for those saying the monitor wasn't plugged in...explain how the monitor was ON then...clearly plugged in to SOMETHING.

I take it thats the rock version the director has on his blog that shardian mentioned earlier.  Very bizarre.

Since it was staged, it's obvious they just had the monitor setup so that the cords would easily pull out which explains why it looked like it wasn't plugged in.  It could of also been multiple takes since no camera can be seen on the guy in the original video, although thats unlikely given the amount of destruction and lack of a budget (of course this assumes they didn't have much of a budget, which I could be wrong about since it was ultimately an ad for a big movie).

It's not "advertising" it's "marketing". There's a difference. For one, we all are discussing it here and eventually discovering it's linked to some movie. Mission accomplished on their marketing objective.

Agreed, but we're the market. There's a lot of people who simply passed the video around and have no clue where it came from.

I found this thread while looking for information on the movie Wanted.

Apparently it's true that in Russia everything is backwards.  Thanks, Yakov.

Is Wanted the one where the guy can curve bullets the way a pitcher throws a curve ball?  If so it looks like this little video is probably 100x more entertaining than the movie will be (the security cam version, not the retarded rock video).

I agree. It's a shame, too. The director has so much potential (Night Watch, Day Watch) and is wasting it on this garbage.

This happened in Hartford, CT a week or so ago.  It's sad. VERY sad.  I remember seeing it on the local news and just staring in disbelief.  it wouldn't have been even a 2nd thought for me to run out and make sure the guy was ok.

It does look like he got hit during a car chase. Look at how they are swerving and how they both take that corner.
