Anyone know someone that does PS2 repairs?
« on: May 26, 2008, 01:29:13 pm »
My friends PStwo has a dead laser and she'd really like to get it fixed.  She's got a custom case on it so would rather fix then buy a new one, but I don't know anyone that fixes PS2 stuff.  Has anyone had good dealings with anyone in the past with PS2 repairs?

I personally have opened up a PS2 once and it's just a mess.  I'm not going near the thing.  :laugh2:

The local TV repair shop here does repairs.  Have you checked your local/disappearing TV repair shop?

Well, that's where we go a-ridin' into town, a whampin' and whompin' every livin' thing that moves within an inch of its life. Except the women folks, of course.

apparently the laser assembly she needs would cost $110 shipped to get to her (or whoever would install it)

She'll be buying a new PS2.

I would swap the laser for cheap no problem but the laser cost is what the bugger is but depending on the version of laser and where it is bought they can be had for a decent price sounds to me the person that wanted $110.00 is out in the left field somewhere and charge's unheard of price's for both parts and labor.

I would swap the laser for $10.00-15.00 and use to be able to get any make for $30.00-$40.00 shipped for a new laser but I have not been into the ps2's for some time now so maybe it is some wierd rare laser type it takes or something but $110 still seems odd when a new system cost that  :dunno.

its supposedly the "newer" version of the laser that is in the slim ps2.  No clue if its rare -- I never took any real steps into the PS2 scene so who knows.  Seems like some places have it for around $70 or so, but tack on a few bucks for shipping and the install (and possibly shipping for the system to the installer) and its a wash.

She's just gonna get a new system and I'll swap out her case.  I can't see that being a big deal, but those could be famous last words.
