JPS plugin request
« on: May 25, 2008, 02:03:17 pm »
Hey all,

I would like a plugin to control my x10 lights throughout my house.  I like xlobby but the free version has too many bugs and I realize that I only use my touchscreen for music, x10 control and weather updates.  I could use someone elses jukebox if it would control x10.

Now before anyone says "write it yourself" I have ZERO programing skills.  My hope is that a programer with one of the ebay touchscreens will read this and think its a cool idea.   I am thinking of a frontend for your home and not just music and games.

hmm? I dosent see what it shoud have a use in a dedicated Jukebox software?

The only problem the plugins might need to use a secondary monitor, since JPS is not combatible to add any buttons or other graphics (apart overlay maybe) to a contain software.

or something I misforstood?

I am trying to get someone to develop a front end for a "smart home".  Since many people on this board have purchased the 15" touchscreens and wall mounted them, I thought someone could write a plugin using the x10 API for the power line communication standard to control x10 light switches.

x10 is the basic communication standard for remote control light switches.  Commands are sent through the existing power lines to X10 enabled devices which may be turned on, off, dim, bright or any specific level of brightness.  Search eBay and you will find MANY x10 light switches for as low as about $5 each.  A usb transceiver to get the commands from the PC to the power lines is about $50.

You can also have macros set up for things like movie watching and dinner time which dim all the lights in the theater and turn off all of the other lights in the house.

It doesn't really have anything to do with jukeboxes but it would be nice if I could get one program to do everything I needed without having to go back to the desktop to switch programs.  I thought the JPS plugin system would be ideal for this.

JPS cant do that, since it not a graphics based plugin system.

Its much better to create a standalone application for this thing, if you ask me (touchscreen based of course) and then use a little fe to either start jukebox or that stonealone software up.

Howover, macros could been used throuch a plugin from these jukebox software, that support videos, since it nothing have due with a GUI interface to due.

Theres your problem right there, You are using the free version. What you want (A Replacment for xlobby) would involve a fair bit of programming and i don't think anyone would want to do that for free due to the ammount of work and time involved.

The reason I am using the free version is because the Paid for/registered version is only available with NEW systems.  I didn't realize the JPS plugin system was visual only.  Thanks for everyones help.
