Tinted glass and mounting quesions
« on: May 22, 2008, 11:23:00 am »
Sorry for flooding this bopard with questions, but believe me I am doign a lot of research before posting , but it's a lot to sort through...

Q1:  How "tinted" is your glass for you TV guys?  My TV is 27 inch with S-Video output and I am strongly considering getting tinted glass.

Q2 How do you mount your glass?  Like how do you "hold it in" the cabinet?  I know thats a poor description of the question, but I think you know what I mean.

Q3 Same question, but on a Happ 27inch Bezel... what do you use to "hold it in"?

Thanks!

I think the general consensus (correct me if I'm wrong) is to have the tint dark enough so that it hides the crap around the monitor/tv.  In my case, the place I got my tinted glass from only had one level of tint-darkness, but I could choose from 'bronze' or 'grey'.  I went grey and it looks awesome.  I guess the darker the tint you get, the more you crank up the monitor brightness/contrast to compensate.

My cab was built from scratch and I simply attached 2 timber rails on the cab's sides to rest the tinted glass on, plus a ridge at the bottom of the monitor to support it (monitor sits at 45 degree angle).  The glass is not fixed to the cab in any way, but its pretty heavy (6mm thick toughened safety glass) so gravity keeps it in place.

HTH!

Gotcha.  I just didn't know what to expect when asking for tinted glass at the glass store.  Thanks for the help!  I read about someone using quarter round to keep in the glass, but I was just curious what most people used.
