Are all Arcade Monitors created equal?
« on: May 19, 2008, 02:48:58 pm »
Im building a MAME machine, and plan to use a real Arcade Monitor. Ill most likely be buying the cabinet and monitor all in one, working.

This might be an odd question, but how do I know the monitor will be high enough quality to play every console/mame game I get? Are Monitors like TV's? Pretty much all the same, and created equally? or do I need to look at the game the cabinet used to be, and remember to expect nothing better than that.

I use and am a fan of the nanao ms8 and ms9 series also.

there easy to work on duel res and work great and long lasting.

if your running a pc with arcade monitor a standard res 15K monitor will do

you could also use a vga without the arcadevga or soft15K but it would not display native like the arcade monitor would with either soft15k or arcadevga though

a 25K medium res monitor would be of no use to you for this type project really

Especially as one can use 15khz modelines to run those games - just as you can run Windows or vector games at 15khz. (Of course, with little effort, Advancemame finds these modes for you. Elsewise, you have to calculate them yourself.)
