27" tv same size as 27" arcade monitor?
« on: May 19, 2008, 01:11:22 am »
My arcade monitor died so I was thinking about replacing it with a TV. I just want to make sure that sizes are universal so it will fit with my existing bezel.

Also, has anyone ever removed the casing from a tv?

They should be the same tube size.  Only PC CRT monitors have that dumb 'viewable' size which is less than the actual advertised size to my knowledge.

How are you planning on connecting the RGB signal?  Or are you just going to use S-video or component?

The hardest part of de-casing for me was supporting the monitor while I removed everything. Other than that the tv seemed to be constructed the same way as an arcade monitor.

You will probably have to do some major cabinet modification, and maybe some TV casing modifications.  Most often, 27" TV casings are over 25" wide, so they won't fit in most standard cabinets that carry 25" monitors.  You either have to de-case the TV, which I don't recommend because it is a royal pain, or modify the TV casing like I did:

I will tell you that the stock bezel from my cabinet fit nicely once I had the 27" TV in there.

I was using an ArcadeVGA and Jpac to connect. It lasted a week before my 13 year old monitor died. Figures. I see older 27" tv's on Craigslist for $50. If I screw up the decasing, it's no big deal.

Walmart has a 27" tv w/ component for $188. Not bad.

a 27" crt will be an a68 series. viewing area will be the same .

the screen curvature may vary from mfg to mfg . but , hidden behind a barrier , it doesn't matter
